Fragile windshield

Maybe I know now why Ford issued the 3-years free windshield covereage for MME. This morning I got hit with a small pebble on the freeway thrown up by a truck and there is a giant chip in the windshield right in front of the driver's position. This is the second time in just over a year of ownership that a bit of road grit has damaged the windshield and if will be the second replacement. I have never had another vehicle with such a fragile windshield.

I also took a small rock to both the windshield and later the glass roof, and both now have chips.

It does seem like the windshield is more fragile than other cars I have owned.

My MME windshield chips and cracks, at small stones my old truck would shrug off without incident.

I saw that thread, but I did not receive a similar email. My doorjamb shows a build date of 12/20, so it doesn't get much earlier adopter than that.

Does your Ford.com account show anything about the free services offered by the email?

That only covers minor repairs which were most likely already covered by your insurance anyway.

My windshield cracked from a rock thrown on the highway during Saturday's rain event...

Safelite will be replacing the glass this weekend through my auto insurance.

I think you had to be signed up as a EA (Beta testing). Not sure but it does not show on a lot others. My windshield seems ok but to early to tell. It’s the paint that is not hard enough to resist stones and small flying debris.

We use gravel up here instead of salt, and I've already taken a few cracks from rocks. My insurance does cover repairs, though. Just takes a month to get in.

There is no indication this is only for EA members. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to who gets the offer.

Not just for EA members since I got the email and although I do have a job-1 vehicle, I am not in the EA program.

By the way I stopped by a local windshield repair shop to have the chip filled and hopefully delay spider crack development. The tech told me mine was the third Mach-E he had seen for cracked or shipped windshield since Thanksgiving.

I received the email (my build date is May 2021) My Ford dot com page does not show the added coverage under the warranty section - yet. I assume it is just taking a while to roll out... I could be wrong.

I’ve been waiting for a new windshield to replace my cracked one for well over a month. Still no availability according to Safelite.

That looked like more than a small rock. Why the heck are you pulling over on a highway for a cracked windshield?
BS aside, my Honda Odyssey got a nasty rock ship and crack at 3 months old and I’ve NEVER had a chipped windshield before. Otherwise our Mach-E has been fine.
