It cannot happen on its own.
When you configure PAAK you have to put in codes and so on.
So it's nothing what you do by mistake.

A few weeks ago when I received the invitation to set up phone has key, I didn’t realize it also would replace fob if fob was left at home. I figured I had the option carrying both at the same time, why I somewhat panicked when I was relying on iPhone thru FordPass alone at the time. So, everything all worked out for me in the end like it should have. Now I know how to use it. Its all trial and error and finding out my techno skills are at time need tuned up! I was bringing up the fact how I found out accidentally because I left fob at home. Maybe new mache owners won’t be caught off guard like I was.

I’m one of the early ā€œ1 Fobā€ group. My wife keeps it. I drive exclusively using PAAK on my iPhone XR. It’s not perfect but it generally works. I sometimes have to take it out of my pocket to start the car - I always chuckle at that. It let’s me in then loses track of me. Sometimes it even loses me after I start the car and pull away. I haven’t ever gotten locked out. I haven’t had to use the door code in a long time - I’m starting to fear forgetting it! We always take the Fob with us on a road trip just in case but don’t forget to take it with you to the Walmart bathroom or it won’t lock when you walk away. The other one that makes me laugh is when I open the door for my wife and then the car locks itself before I can get to the driver’s door - usually right about the time that I’m reaching for the door open button.

It could be better but I’m not sure if that’s the phone’s fault or the app’s fault. Seems like there are transmit/receive conflicts between the two kind of like when two people try to talk on a radio at the same time. Also sleep/wake issues - one’s awake and the other is asleep. Most things can be overcome with prior planning or multiple button pushing.

Overall, I like PAAK. I now don’t carry any keys for my electronic car or my electronic house locks.

Like your story. Things aren’t perfect. It does depend on where you’ll be to not carry fob. There are spotty dead zones for relying on pass alone. I know where most of them are, but it’s gotten better. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was setting up when i Initially set the program up. All the codes? My thought was security reasons. I said earlier that I thought it happened on its own, but it obviously wasn’t at all. I’m just glad I experienced the feeling of a missing fob not far from home base. I don’t have the comfort zone to not have the fob attached to me.

Have a Tesla friend. He didn’t have his key fob with him and iPhone wouldn’t respond with his car and he had to have it towed 50 miles. This is what ran thru my head at my moment.
Teslas come with 2 key cards, one you keep in your wallet. You can also call their customer service and they'll remote unlock it. The fob is merely a convenience as some prefer it over PAAK and they're not cheap. It's weird that he had to have it towed.

Your Mach-E backup code should function like the Tesla key card.

Tesla said they couldn’t locate where the car was. It wouldn’t unlock or anything. Tesla key fobs are flat as paper. I do like their fobs. Ford should follow suit and come up with a much smaller size.

I am using PaaK for now. This morning the car unlocked just fine but I had to use the FP app to start the car since tow car told me it couldn’t find a key (phone was resting on the Qi pad). ?ā€ā™‚?

So far, PaaK has been working great. ??
