I know there are several posts with various advice seekers but every chip, scratch, dent and scrape is a little unique (like snowflakes!) due to the size and material of each body panel.

Wife and I noticed this suddenly yesterday after a car wash, and do not know if the car wash caused it or something else, so we have no identifying event or cause.

That being said, this definitely took off the paint, and is a bit over an inch in length. The panel appears to be one of the plastic ones as the material is black. I don't think it's aluminum, or a various steel alloy.

I am not an expert but I've heard you cannot buff plastic panels like you can metal, and that touch up paint has difficulty adhering to plastic. Any advice on what may work here (haven't asked a body shop yet, they seem to be closed Sundays)? It's a star white 2022.

Front bumper respray is the fix. Consider PPF if you want to protect.

Thanks for the replies! I checked with the shop partnered with our dealer where we bought a chip/dent protection plan. Technically they are a "paintless" shop as advertised but the main guy came from a body shop that did full service and has a lot of experience.

Apparently with star white paint, the only real way to get the sparkles correct is with the big gun from proper distance. The kits to mix the pearls in touch up never come out right and won't match, with white and red happening to be the worst for matching. So he's going to fix it free (per plan) the best he can do and if we can't live with it slightly not matching then at that point it requires body shop where they have to remove the whole panel, sand, primer, paint, pearl, and clear coat. He said that's anywhere from $1k to $2k. So we're gonna try the "free" fix and see how visible it is from around 5 ft if it's annoying.
