So …haven’t had time to replace my cracked insert but thanks for making me look forward to it even more. ?
?
I think if I had known what a PITA the insert grille actually would be - I probably would have just went through insurance. The part is so expensive to start with (even an OEM takeoff on eBay is still $500+ last I looked, and $2500 MSRP and ~$1500 retail) and then it would be probably a couple hours labor at a shop... all of that is way over my $500 deductible.

Then again, I wanted to do it more for the experience than anything. With the rest of the info in this thread, you should probably be fine - or at least better prepared.

But I still feel like there's no real reason why you shouldn't be able to remove the frunk tub, undo a couple nuts on the back side of the bumper, and remove that insert in a few minutes. Just absurd it was done the way it was - especially for a part that's VERY susceptible to breaking (the part itself seems REALLY brittle to me as well). Once TWRAPS gets a PPF kit for it, I'd highly recommend any GT (and now the new sport appearance cars) apply it ASAP to save the hassle.

Do you also install or just make the film?
We offer installations through partner shops, I am yet to list it properly but we do have a partner shop in Concord too (where we are based) that's already done a few Mach-E fronts for our customers.

Other random bit if you need to pull this grille insert off:

If you have a front plate mounted with the OEM bracket, you'll need to drill out the plastic rivets holding the bracket on (or snip the rivets off from the back after you pull the bumper).

This cheap kit from Harbor Freight works just fine and includes the correct size rivets to reattach the plate bracket: https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-riveter-with-40-industrial-strength-poly-rivets-97757.html

Hey @twraps - you able to make any progress on that GT grille film? Wasn't sure if you and Mark were ever able to hook up or if you had found another car.

He told me that having the grill separate wouldn't work. He wanted to see it on the car so he could get the proper dimensions that way. What exactly are you looking for?

I’m in the process of removing my front bumper to address an issue with the active grille shutters. I’m following the instructions document that was shared here, and when I get to Step 10, I don’t see any clips under the headlights.

What I do see are plastic clips/inserts coming from the headlight housing that go into the bumper. Are these the clips being referred to in the instructions?

Yes they are. Those clips are permanent and stay below the headlights. The bumper just slides into them. You just pull the bumper cover out of the clips. They are not especially tight. Just there to keep it aligned properly.
