But there are already plenty of Mach-E's with over 100,000 miles without a drive unit failure. As much as I can tell from this forum, drive unit failures are far from common.

There are drive unit failures on those Munro worshipped Teslas too.

google Tesla big drive unit coolant bypass - a well known failure and the aftermarket has had to make a fix for it
long / short of it the rotor has coolant inside it and the seal from the end cap where the coolant enters fails and fills the drive unit with coolant eventually frying the inverter

Ford techs are now fighting an approval process for most of the things they need to replace. Sometimes multiple levels of approval even. The techs may be actually more frustrated than the customers are at this point because of the delays that this approval process causes...and the resulting flack they have to take from customers who want any info at all about why it's taking so long to get their cars back.

Cleary Ford is making a big attempt to reduce their "warranty spend" by requiring these approvals and delaying the remedy of published recalls.

I've had two motor failures in under 5000 miles. My front motor/drive unit failed at 4200 miles. Then my rear electric motor/drive unit failed at 4800. I have the car back now and it seems to be ok so far.

This could be somewhat valid - I brought my car In to a Ford dealership because it was making a creaking sound from the front - which I assumed was just a minor issue with suspension or somethig.

There were no warning lights at any time on the car, and I noticed no other performance issues with acceleration / rough ride or anything else.

The dealership fairly quickly decided it was the front drive that needed replacement, which took them 30+ days while they provided no loaner.

After 30 days with no real ETA I started the lemon law process and sent them the final opportunity to repair letter.

The car came back 2 weeks later. With it's new front drive. It still made the creaking noise.

Later I brought it to another Ford dealership. They replaced some strut bearings which solved the problem and had it back in a few days.

I can only assume that the first dealership was either grossly incompetent or committing warranty fraud against Ford Motor.
