For those of you living in the state that it is legal to tint front (side) windows: How difficult is it to have done? There is a thick trim around the upper frame, it has to be removed? .... any thoughts? Thanks ....

I'm more interested to know if anyone has or plans on tinting (further) the roof glass? If so what # would you use? I want to look out but definitely don't want the sun shinning on my head/eyes.

It seems I have always had my window tint, since the Mid 70's The Good, Bad, And Ugly.
I put LLumar Formula one Statos On everything but the front windscreen. I used 40% on the front sides and 50% on the rest of the sides and back. I used the 70% almost clear on the roof. The sides were done a few weeks ago and does help with some heat into the cabin. The roof was done a few days ago, Still evaluating. THe main reason for tinting is the saftety aspect of having a laminated glass that is very hard to break through. 2nd is to have UV protection for the interior as no sun damage.

I have Llumar Stratos 70 on everything except the sunroof. No issues, everything is perfect. The shop that installed mine has to replace the tint on one window due to a 1 inch crease they caused from folding the film so it could get into those deep wells of where the glass goes into the door. They said it was a slightly more difficult install because of how the doors are made.

It is exactly what you went through that I am interested in ... so the thick trim window pieces did make the install more difficult? No need to pop the trim pieces off?

I didn't see any evidence of that and the shop didn't mentioning having to pop them off. The crease is on the driver's side window at the very front, where the side mirror housing connects to the door. I can send you a picture when I get home this evening if you like.

You will have to forgive my naivete. The % is related to darkness of tint or UV protection? "Almost Clear" on the roof means the same brightness of sun comes through? Thanks.

Here in California its illegal to tint the driver/passenger windows which is incredibly stupid. Almost every car on the street has blacked out windows. I had 35% put on my F150 which is the amount the company said police will tolerate if you happen to get pulled over for some other reason.

The amount of light coming in is really not the issue though. As long as you buy some good ceramic tint with some good UV rejecting properties you should be good. Having it darken just is more a privacy thing for me. I'm probably going to go a little darker up front on the MME this time around.

It's legal to tint the side windows to 50% here in Minnesota. It's not legal to tint the windshield but I have done it in the past with 3m ceramic 90 and no one noticed.

Here are the photos of my car with 3m ceramic 40 on the driver's and passenger door. I only did those two windows.
