Frunk stuck - help!

It does still drive, yes. But it has an alert that is very loud and annoying that goes off every 2 seconds alerting you that the frunk is open. Also, I'm nervous to drive it at highway speeds with it half unlocked for fear that it would release completely while driving.

That's what we decided with the emergency hood release. Probably won't activate, but even if it didn't likely wouldn't advance the latch any further.

Yeah. I would be nervous to drive it too. Does that light go off after a while? Might have to get the car towed. I wonder what the dealership will do to get it opened? Maybe cut the latch with a long reciprocating saw blade?

It sounds like the physical latch is the problem, or the cable connecting to the latch. But you could try resetting the car by disconnecting the 12 V battery for a minute, and reconnecting it. While you have the frunk beauty covers off you could check the latch to see if there is something obvious.

My guess - it is a defective part that will need replacement.

oh boy ?, just thinking this happens to me on one of our Autobahn here in Germany.
I certainly would stop immediately and have it towed in.

Sounds like the second latch is closed so closing it is most likely not an option. Need to open the top one get the hood back up and start again would be my guess. A standard screwdriver while pulling the release has worked in the past

Old-times cars that got stuck on the safety catch would require the hood to be pressed down a little (not all the way) while the mechanical release was operated. Pulling on it while it’s on the safety catch prevents the latch from working by design. Not sure this will work for the MME, but it’s worth a try. ?‍?

Where is @Jimrpa when we need him he is the expert on the electronic hood release on this forum. At least the most obsessed with it. Sorry for bloating the thread just could not help myself.

I have no button to date so can not help much. Pull the mechanical twice hold pull the second time then have some else try to lift the hood up? Not sure if it is a mag lock?

LOL. Based on the earlier posts, it sounds like the mechanical releases are somehow disengaged once the electric release is triggered. Which seems stupid. And which may be why we still don’t have an electric frunk release. Our cars may not have that disconnect? Who knows? ?‍

The mechanical cable and the cable from the release solenoid are both connected to the release arm for the latch. That should not be an issue. ?‍?

That’s what I would have thought but the OP even said that pulling in the “hood release” didn’t feel like anything was happening?

Try it from the keypad? Punch in your number and then 7-8 immediately after and hold it. Probably won't work, but worth a shot.

No, the alert does not go off. We have also wondered how the dealership will open it. I think that is a very fair guess that they will need to cut it.

Thanks for the idea! I tried that earlier too. Unfortunately didn't work. I think that it is the same mechanism from the door pad as the phone app, unfortunately.

Correct. The manual pull by the driver's side door does nothing. You can feel that it's not pulling anything. A previous poster mentioned that the electrical unlatch bypasses the mechanical one - which I would believe.

Where would you recommend placing the screwdriver? Unfortunately the mechanical release is disengaged with the electrical one over-riding it. I can still attempt to hit the electrical release but it just spins without opening it further. We've tried placing a lot of pressure, a little pressure, side pressure, etc. onto the hood while simultaneously pressing the electrical release button on the app.

Are you suggesting that I try to place something on or near the latch itself while pressing the electrical release?

One problem is that the mechanical release is disengaged. It seems that the electrical one is over-riding it. We have tried applying varying degrees of pressure to the hood while activating the release button on the app. No luck.
