Is anyone else experiencing odd estimates from the GOM after the recent updates? Mine have been all over the place since it updated a little over 2 weeks ago. I drive the same route every day to work, get the same efficiency every day and up to the latest update, pretty much had roughly the same estimated range every day except when it got real cold (320-330 at 100%). Now it it’s all over the place and doesn’t seem to make any sense. Leave for work in the morning at 58 degrees and have it say an equivalent of 298 miles at 100%. Leave work at 74 degrees and it displays and equivalent of 250 miles at 100%. Every day since the update it can swing all over the place, and strangely gets lower when it gets closer to ideal temperature. Meanwhile I have an efficiency of 3.9 over the last 9000+ miles and I’m still maintaining that level. This morning I dropped my kid off down the street at school and it had an equivalent estimate of 298 at 58 degrees. Had an efficiency of 5.8. Left for work an hour later and it was showing an equivalent of 268 at 65 degrees. By the time I got to work (35 miles) it had gone up to an equivalent of 298. But when I went to move it 2 hours later because a charger was available, it was now down to 275 at 74 degrees parked a garage.
I know the GOM is a guess, I’ve had the car for 18 months and have almost 30k on it so I don’t need all the sarcastic replies about leaking electrons and putting tape over it. I’m just wondering why it’s swinging all over the place and how this is supposed to be more accurate.

Just supposition, but did 6.3 maybe delete the driver history so the GOM is now a WAG until it relearns a little. It may be having trouble predicting temperature effects and predicting whether you’ll be driving fast or slow, uphill or down. So every little input swings the pendulum wildly?

That was my first impression. Usually when we get an update that affects the GOM, it drops down to 245 and slowly increases as it learns. This time it started at 297 and has been swinging around wildly ever since. Maybe that’s the “intelligent” part; wild guesses.

Are you using the nav at all? Entering a route makes the GOM go nuts.

IIRC, one of the updates changed it so that when driving history is reset the GOM shows max range then adjusts from there.

My question is why do you need to charge when you have 250+ range. ??‍♂

Probably this.

It’s no different than if you reset the history on your old ICE.

It’s constantly recalculating and averaging out so your range will swing more with less miles to calculate an average from.

Just got to my car after charging for a bit, now it’s 282 and it’s 3 degrees warmer outside…

Well I was talking about the calculated range if it was at 100%, car wasn’t actually at 100%. And I charge daily because I can charge at work for $1 for 4hrs which covers my 70mile commute plus an extra 6-8%. It’s significantly cheaper than charging at home. I can start on Monday morning at 50-60% and on Friday be at at 80-90% to start the weekend, after driving 350miles for $5. It would be almost $40 charging at home.

You could be getting intelligent range updates, but that will give a popup on the cluster saying range was updated due to weather. It can be easy to miss because it only stays up for about 5 seconds and goes away.

I'm in EA, still on 6.1.0, and I'm having a similar experience. Interestingly my displayed Miles/Km has gradually increased from 3.1 to now 3.9 and my displayed range is also all over the place.
