Well Ford did improve on the MME for 2024. So it's not like Ford has given up on it yet.
The dealership model needs to go or heavily reimagined. Too much overhead and sales nonsense.

The bigger question is whether Ford has given up on EV in general. Ford and GM have back pedaled on the EV push. Frankly in the EV domain, it's really Tesla and Chinese brands that are leading. Instead of spending money on R&D, these legacy makers spent on lobbying governments to put up walls. Why compete when you can monopolize? Regardless, GM and Ford are becoming less relevant in the global modern automotive marketspace.
I agree; however to GM's credit, they have pumped out A LOT of EVs this year alone with more to come.

* Blazer EV (round 2, last fall's release went uhh badly)
* Equinox EV
* Silverado EV
* GMC Denali EV
* Escalade IQ (coming soon)
* Cadillac Optiq (coming soon)
* Cadillac Vistiq (coming soonish)
* Ultium Bolt (next year)

That all joins the Lyriq that came out last year. Can't forget the Honda Prologue and the Acura ZDX, both of which are GM Ultium cars. GM has quite a bit of choice at a variety of price points and form factors. Ford only has 2 EVs (disregarding the E-Transit) since the beginning and will not gain another one until 2026/2027, that is very unfortunate.

Edit:
It is unfortunate that GM dropped CarPlay and outside of their big trucks, refuse to put a frunk in their cars. Those are 2 showstoppers from me getting one. Maybe they will change their minds eventually.

Hopefully Ford is simply regrouping with the skunkworks thing. As a lifetime Ford fan, I hope they get it right. If the skunkworks developed platform works well they can pivot to that for all their EVs and extend the platform beyond small EVs. My next vehicle may not be a Ford for the first time in 30+ years, but I hope not!

it depends what is meant by "giving up"
Ford has pivoted to being a truck only, mostly North America company... the gas Mustang sells in tiny numbers and they are losing their ass on the MME. F series trucks pay all the bills, so its understandable. But I think it's a blind alley.

I really wish they would do what Hyundai/Kia are doing... develop a range of EVs.

There is a lot of commonality from an investment standpoint in the EV space... but you have to be at hundreds of thousands of units to be profitable. GM for better or worse is doing this. VW is trying... The Chinese are mastering it.

Despite the doom and gloom, EVs is all that will matter 15 years from now and the world will not all be driving pickup trucks at that time... even as gas prices fall to $2 a gallon because of declining demand.

…and then you woke up from your green dream. Never gonna happen. Hybrid ICE is by far the smartest and most sustainable marketplace path forward.

I’m not going to make bold assumptions on what will or will not ever happen…the only thing guaranteed is things will change.

But as manufacturers invest billions upon billions into making EVs markets shift.

End of the day customers can only buy what they are sold.

Not for me or my household. Everyone is different, people should make educated decisions based on cars they need. Hybrid is a 1 size fits all, personally I like to buy clothes that fit.

Yes, they have given up on the MME, or at least from what the rumor mill says there will be no Gen2 car. Sad, because it’s Ford’s best BEV offering. ??
Please provide source for your rumor.

interim technologies are never good long term bets. .....

and the EV revolution has already happened in the largest car market in the world... China. Hiding behind massive tariffs is never a sustainable position... yet both Europe and North America are trying to buy time... if that time is wasted by automakers pursuing hybrids... then they are doomed.

While it is hoped that the CE1 platform will host the MME, there are those that feel it will not be and that the MME will be one and done. I am not in that camp, but a lot of people who are actually in the know are leaning that way. ??
What people?

Some vehicles with the same issue will get exemplary service/repairs.
Some will get average.
Others will get below average. (sadly the statistical norm)
And then the horror stories.

All were manufactured by Ford.
All were serviced and repaired at a dealership. Yet amazing inconsistency.

I personally believe what determines which experience takes place isn't the brand or the dealership. Rather it's the person(s) involved. It's people that either care or don't. Are held accountable or aren't.
I had a Fusion Energi with a battery problem. Overnight the the 5.7kw battery became 4.4 on the way to 3.8. When discussing KWs with the service advisor I saw his eyes glaze over. He got his mechanic whose eyes glazed over even more. I was told that it was my driving habits that caused the reduction in KWs. I tried to explain the difference between miles per KW and number of KWs available. I tried to compare it with a 20 gallon gas tank only taking 10 gallons when empty. Empty eyes. I called Ford. They gave me a case number and told me to talk to the service manager only. The service reps initially wouldn’t let me near him.
I was told years later by a service advisor at a different dealership that they rarely see the Mach e for service. The service lines were full of ICEs less than 4 years old. They had a huge service garage and had a 1-2 week wait for even an oil change. Yes - EVs are death for service departments despite all the conversations on EV forums. Mine is 2 years old and I have had it in for a nail in the tire.

It’s still rumor at this stage, so does it matter? Ford itself has said nothing about it. The lack of information on it seems to be what these people are basing their opinions on. I’m still waiting in order to see since it’s only rumor. ?‍♂?

Not sure about pumping alot of EVs. Model intros maybe. But I hardly see any on the road. Blazer, Equinox, and the Caddys are pretty much the same with slight variation. Is there a market for such segregation of really same CUVs? Bolt was a great entry level offering for city-folk. Too bad it got canned. I look forward to its resurrection in Ultium guise.

Well GM may have learned the follies of their UX ways by going it themselves. They have recently fired the UX team of about 1000 people. Similarly VW also has given up on their UX team - CARIAD. Instead have partnered with Rivian to the tune of $5B.

I hope Ford keeps MME alive. Sure it does feel like a pilot EV offering, but I think despite its ups and downs, there are enough of them on the road to warrant Ford's EV presence. Sorry I can never tell ICE or EV F150. They look the same at a glance.

Your stepping over the Koreans. I think Kia/Hyundai are ready to take the 2nd place mantle behind Tesla.

That's kind of what I am getting at. I can't imagine Ford ditching Mach-E even if it results in a platform transition. Since there is no information and just rumor/conjecture it makes little sense to discuss in such a manner.
