After shutting off machE, opening and closing door, leaving vehicle headlights stay on for 3-4 minutes. Any way to make headlights shutoff faster?

Turn the headlight switch to off?

Here's what the manual says about the headlight delay, although it seems like you are saying you are seeing the three minute delay without explicitly turning the delay on?

SWITCHING HEADLAMP EXIT DELAY ON AND OFF
To switch headlamp exit delay on, pull the turn signal lever toward you after switching your vehicle off.
To switch headlamp exit delay off, pull the turn signal lever toward you again or switch your vehicle on.
Note: The headlamps turn off after three minutes with any door open or 30 seconds after the last door closes.

Thx for feedback but a little confused.

To switch headlamp exit delay off, pull the turn signal lever toward you again or switch your vehicle on.

If I understand correctly pull turn signal lever toward you twice shuts off exit delay BUT YOUR STATEMENT "OR SWITCH YOUR VEHICLE ON? DOES TURNING ON VEHICLE disable exit delay?

It’s the same as other Fords. Pull the stalk after you turn off the car and they will turn off. If you change your mind and want them on again, pull the stalk again. Either way they will automatically turn off eventually. Everything resets the next time you turn on the car.

If the headlights stay on longer than the 30 sec delay with all doors confirmed closed, then you are experiencing the headlight switch bug. Turn the switch off and then back to auto. It sometimes forgets what position it’s in.

Go to Vehicle-Lighting and turn the Auto Lamp Delay to OFF.

To be fair to OP, he is correct, it should NOT stay on for 3 min. Manual says it stays on for 3 min if a door is left open, but if all doors are closed, it should last only 30 seconds.

I'm wondering if your headlight switch is set to on instead of auto?

My vehicle's headlights don't stay on for any significant time after leaving the vehicle.
There was another thread where me (and others) experienced the same thing: there seems to be a software bug that switches your lights from auto to “on” without you knowing. I haven’t been able to reproduce it, but I literally never touch it. It may have happened to you.

This did happen to me once. Yeah, there's actually been about a dozen threads on this... @Gimme_my_MME will assign liability to the paranormals.

if it is dinging when you get out, it is not on auto. I have had it happen a couple of times. Not sure how probably with knee getting in or out.
