Is this common or do I have an issue? My steering wheel heats up fast and is hot but it only lasts maybe 3-5 minutes and then cools off, even though the heated steering wheel button is still on. My Mazda never cooled off. What’s up here?

Same thing here, I thought it was strange as well. I guess it doesn't need to be searing hot for that long, but it does go quite cool. If you turn it off and on again, it'll heat right back up.

I'm also kind of surprised how hot it actually gets, same with the seats. I never use higher than 1 on the seats.

I think it works kinda like an oven, reaches temp then goes off and resets and repeats

Yeah I get it but it would be better if it just shut off the 'on' light since it isn't actually heating anymore. Bad design. If we want a hot steering wheel 24/7 it should be up to us.

It might be some restrictions around how that type of resistance heater works, there's no perforation on the steering wheel, so it just might have to work like that. There's usually a good reason.

My MME is currently at the dealership for its HVBJB recall, and they gave me a 2023 Ford Edge as a loaner. Its heated steering wheel could be used to cook a meal compared to my MME's.

I've found that my MME's heated steering wheel is "just right" comfort-wise, and it will cool down after some time, but it never feels like a drastic change.

Mine does the same thing and my previous Ford Escape did the same thing. I just assumed that’s the way the designed it (like it or not). Maybe we can get an OTA Update some year down the road. ?

Good morning! If you are still in need of some assistance regarding your heated steering wheel and the cool off concerns, I am more than happy to look into this further. Lightning steering wheel was mild in heat and lasted about 15 minutes.

Mach E steering wheel is also very mild (almost lukewarm) and lasts about 10 minutes.

It works, they just need to increase the temperature setpoint a few degrees so more people are comfortable.

I noticed this change after the last few OTAs. After some experiments, I think Ford has tied it to the seat warmer setting. If I set the heat warmer to high, then the heated steering wheel stays hot.

Give it a try.

Im sure when I first got it in June it was really hot, though I didnt mind it.
folks were commenting how hot it got

im also sure it was a bit cooler with seat heater on med.

now however it is barely warm, and only effective to take the chill off it on startup.

there has certainly been a change, and i suspect a non documented mod in one of the updates.
currently at 6.7

why not a selection option like the seats? that would have been a great choice.

I agree nuMach. Tying to the seats, if they do this, is ridiculous. My seat on hottest 3 setting is unbearable after a minute, and I like it hot. My Mazda CX5 was better but I complained about it as well for heat zones being far apart.

Hey Ford...how about a symmetrical 360 degree user defined heat settting? Shouldn't be too difficult. Jeeeez.
