I am aware that my Mach E sometimes forgets what its setting are. I usually drive in Whisper with manual heater/AC settings. After I back out of the garage, I check the settings. Sometimes the AC is on (in December?) or the climate is set to auto or power set to Engage. I reset these before starting my journey and accept that the computer had a hiccup.

I have come across another software problem. Sometimes at dusk or foggy weather I will turn the headlights "ON" rather than automatic. A couple times I turned the headlights off to get a few more miles (feet?) range on a long stretch of driving. When I turned the headlights off, the heater went to max of 85 F and the fan went to full power - 10. Once had this happen on the interstate in summer. No traffic around, so I pulled over, turned on the 4-ways and reset it. My remedy is to just not turn the lights off. Has anyone else come across this where the heater goes ballistic?

If it happens reliably then take it to the dealer. The headlight switch might be faulty and need replacement. There’s a max defrost button on the headlight switch panel so it’s possible somehow turning the headlight knob to off is triggering the max defrost internally in the switch panel.

Of course, make sure you’re not unintentionally brushing against the max defrost button with your finger or knuckles when you turn the knob….

The AC is on in December because the defog system uses cold air. Think of it as armed (ready to work), not actually on.

As for the rest, it’s mad at you. Did you feed it low grade electrons or something? Remember, always use premium electrons.

Second on the AC in December. It is trying to dry the air to reduce fogging. Back in the old days, before auto climate, cars had a picture that should how to defog the windshield which showed fresh air and AC on.

Since the headlights are powered by the 12v battery, I can’t believe that Turing them off would add range.

You accidentally pressed the Max Defrost button, which is by the headlight knob.

FYI turning off the headlights won't save any measurable range. Driving 5 MPH slower is by far a bigger effect, followed by turning off the heat.

I know the lights draw next to zero compared to motor/heater. I was doing 70 mph in a 75, so couldn't slow much more without being run over. As far as the max defrost button, I didn't even know it was there. Never had the windows fog up

Old fart here. A year and a half and I am still figuring it out. My first car had a manual choke and manual throttle lock to warm up the engine.
