Check this out. It’s a good guide. Not sure if the word accessories include heater or not.

I am with @AliRafiee. Our temperatures bottom out around the low 20s but average the high 40s to low 50s.

I set my heat to 70s and just go. Unless you are going to drive further than your commute miles it really doesn’t matter. Just go and drive the car normally.

1. Preheat with shore power
2. Seat heat
3. Wheel heat
4. Dress warm
5. Set circulation to interior only
6. Set cabin temp as low as you can.
7. Hope for an early spring.

I live in Quebec and this is my second MME, went from a Premium to a GTPE. These cars, in my opinion, are amazing in winter conditions. Love the instant heat in the interior, seats and steering wheel. Not to mention the AWD works great on icy and snowy roads (I do have winter tires).

I have driven through a snow storm but it wasn’t that cold (~20F). I had my duck hunting parka on and blue jeans. Heat was going to the battery and the vents were blowing outside air. Seat and steering heat were on. No issues and range wasn’t an issue since I was driving very slow due to having Summer UHP tires on the car. My feet were a tad cold. Definitely not a typical experience. ?‍♂?
I would like to see EV manufactures develop radiant heaters for the under dash for the driver and front passenger . My ankles are the first part of my body to get cold and I think radiant heaters here would be an energy efficient solution. I believe I read that VW was testing radiant heating.

Try to use shore power to precondition the cabin before driving.
Expect range drop.
Use seat and steering wheel heaters. Or set to Auto. The car should know how to heat up isolated (occupied) areas only for optimal efficiency.
Plug in whenever you can.

Ain't these in the manual?

Heat will struggle and you may have fogging issues when it’s below -20°C outside. You will want to keep the car plugged in as much as possible when it’s below 0°C to keep the battery warm. 240V charger becomes necessary (120V won’t keep battery warm). Highly suggest you use programmed departure times when it’s below freezing to minimize range loss and poor performance.

There’s a reason Ford put a max defrost button beside the headlight switch and a max defrost icon on the lower right centre screen. CANADA!!!

I moved to north Alabama from the NCR, little cooler there but like all say, heat not an issue for me and likely not for you.

How about plugging in your car anytime temperatures are close to freezing or below per the manual? I have a carport and I nearly followed this “recommendation“ from the manual last year but held off until temperatures hit the twenties. It kept the battery at my 80% set point and didn’t seem to use much energy keeping the battery warm when not driving and using a little if I knew ahead of time and set a departure.

I held off believing constantly plugging in was bad but after watching the many newer battery (NCM) videos of late, I plan to plug in now anytime near freezing and keep the battery at 70% following the Ford manual and the latest research showing this will not hurt my battery. Lots of new information to learn.

One thing for the OP to keep in mind is the 23.5 and 24s have an upgraded heater with more power.
Only in LFP cars. OP does have a LFP pack, which is more sensitive to cold weather and requires more heat to function.

Ottawa here too. This will be my first winter with my 2023 MME premium 4x (got it in the spring). Previous car was a Honda Clarity PHEV. Based on that experience, I'm expecting a 40% drop from the mid summer range highs!

As others have said, parking in a garage (mine isn't heated but rarely goes below freezing in winter) and preheating all that metal and glass on shore power before you hit the road will go a long way to saving some winter range.

I think the only challenge on the heating system on a cold day would be when you're navigation to a DCFC and trying to precondition the battery while also trying to heat the cabin. I don't DCFC that often, so hopefully it won't be to much of an inconveniece.

Hi,
As we are slowly bracing for colder weather, my MME is my first EV and I know we don’t have a heat pump (yet). I would like to get your input on the car’s heating system as I anticipate winter cold in the National Capital Region. For those who’ve already went through a Canadian winter, how’s the cabin heat with the resistance heater ?

i just want to set my expectations ?
I live in Minnesota. I would estimate your range is diminished by 30%, Use your heated seats, steering wheel heat, dress warmer. One of my first trips in colder weather was about 34 degrees at night with rain. I had lights on, windshield wipers and the heater. It really lowered my range. I ended up plugging in on a stage 2 charger at a hotel casino with 5 miles range left. (Very good place to be stranded.. food was good too, after a few cold ones to calm down) First experience with RANGE ANXIETY! Charged for 3 hours to get enough range to make it to a DC fast charger.
