Couldn’t just set it to a FM station you can tolerate for a couple seconds on startup? Leaving it set to static is a choice.

My car starts all the time without audio sound. I guess I don't understand this issue. Could it be because I listen to Bluetooth music and the source gets disconnected?

I turn off audio when giving the car to the car wash kids. It stays off even when I start the car again.

So what is the problem?

I use Carplay and sometimes it's finicky. I prefer to have it connect as soon as I start the car for both music & Navigation & usually it does, but once in a while it fails to connect & instead goes to the free SiriusXM station which I find loud & obnoxious. Other times it randomly connects to AM radio & sometimes when that happens it's loud static. It's jarring in either case.

You do things differently, but some people prefer not to switch off the audio.

Oh, now I understand. Sorry for the stupid question.

There are settings in FORSCAN under the APIM to enable or disable the AM and FM tuners as well as XM radio. (starting with 7D0-01-01 look for AMT and FMT and find the disable bit that shuts them off)

My audio system stays off 99% of the time so I haven't bothered.

Short version:

In all scenarios, I want the car's default to be "I couldn't find a way to make sound that you enjoy, so here is silence instead". I never use the radio, but the car defaults to it when I would prefer silence. I want to trick the car into thinking there is no radio so it stops doing that.

Long version: I only listen to Amazon Music (a service I pay for), music from a USB stick, and occasionally BT audio from my phone. I have no need or desire to ever listen to the radio (since it's probably tuned to a station in a different city anyway), nor pay for XM. However, as some of you have noticed, the car will pull up the radio by default, even before anything else in the car has booted up.

Restart the car? Loud radio static.
USB read fault? Loud radio static.
Amazon Music selection ends (usually because I ask Alexa for a specific song)? Loud radio static.
Vehicle loses data connection? Loud radio static.

Not only do I get blasted by loud radio static often (or a station I don't care to listen to), the car will shift focus away from the map. It will also dump a radio icon in the tray, which may bump out the energy monitor icon (3.0 mi/kWh, or whatever). To get rid of that, I have to swipe it away. Half the time, I end up maximizing it again.

So, I want to disable the radio. I searched the Forum, the closest I got was this thread, which suggest muting the radio when it plays, but does not fix the problem.

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/disable-sirius-xm-popup.25510/

Further, I want to trick the vehicle into thinking that there is no radio, making silence the default, but keeping all of my audio settings (especially currently set volume) the same, so when I do play the music that I select, I don't have to do anything else.

Ideally, this would be a vehicle setting (ha!). I'll settle for a Forscan setting, if someone knows how to do it. I'd even disconnect something, but I don't want to have to cut any wires.

Can anyone suggest a solution?
I primarily stream as well Amazon Music and SiriusXM app but sometimes the apps lose audio. They display the time of the track progressing, but nothing is audible. Has anyone else encountered this?

About 50% of the time switching to the radio for a short time then switching back will connect the audio, but it’s not consistent.

Suggestions?

I may find myself in 3 different radio markets during the week. But no such station exists for even one market. They all have ads, which are worse than static. AM, FM, XM, doesn't matter. The car should NOT default to playing anything. It should default to silence, or my USB stick, but it doesn't.

It will default to my 12V FM transmitter, that broadcasts clean, silent nothingness.

It seems the car's behavior is different if you are playing music from your phone via Bluetooth, instead of using the car's network (paid for) and Alexa.

Thanks! I do mean to try that, and enable the GT power meter, so I do need to use FORSCAN someday.

FYI when I get in my car it automatically starts playing the music off my phone with almost no delay if that was the last audio source used. No static or FM station first. iOS+CarPlay+Apple Music

So your issue might be due to outdated software on the car something with your phone.

I'd have to use my phone with my car for that to matter. I don't even use PAAK. Music is from the Mustang's onboard Amazon Music app, that is called by the onboard Alexa app, that uses the car's connected data feature, which I pay Ford for. The issue is that the car defaults to screaming at me in static, and insisting on playing the radio at startup or when other options briefly fail. The phone is not involved.

Not a suggestion, but there is this option
What a total idiot. It is like watching a train accident, only stupider. And I actually watched it. Well at least until he destroyed the screen. I'll never get that 5 minutes back.
