If you’re using PAAK, it helps to have your phone in the same hand or at least in a pocket that’s facing the door column when you press the button. As mentioned above, rest your finger on it for about a second—a quick tap doesn’t always do it. Even then, sometimes it just doesn’t want to work, so at that point I just hold down the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons together to lock the doors since my finger is already nearby. Of all the cars I’ve had with this kind of feature, unfortunately this one has been the most unreliable with the locking button.

Mine has never once functioned… and that’s across three different Mach-E’s.

I believe there was a module update that fixed it - mine, anyway. Don’t remember which one it was. They updated several modules while my Mach E was in for the glass recalls. The touch to lock has been working fine ever since.

My son and I joke about getting that button to work correctly. Some days, my index finger works, other days it's my other hand's middle finger, sometimes my thumb when the other fingers don't work (phone is in same pocket every time). We have a fun laugh figuring out which finger will work today.

Failsafe we've decided on doing, and much more consistent: high five my car!! We laughed when it worked the first, the second, the third...every time since. I just close the door, high five the padlock, and the mirrors fold in! Stupid? Yes. But that's what we like in this house!

The fob or phone you’re using for PAAK have to be within a meter of the door and have a clear signal. In addition, it’s not a button, there’s nothing to press, just touch it.

Worked all the time when I carried the fob. Hardly works with PAAK. I think that's the issue.

When I first got my car it seemed like the lock on the outside of the rear doors worked pretty well - you'd tap it once and it would lock the car - but on the front doors it was almost like I'd have to double-tap it. About a month into ownership the car developed an issue that required my bringing it into the dealership, and even though I had been receiving OTA updates regularly, they ran a bunch of software updates that I guess can't be done OTA. After that, the lock function works as expected on any door - touch it for seemingly just under a second and the car locks. This seems to be the case no matter which key (fob or PAAK) I am using.
