The "chips" that are in short supply in many sectors are often the cheap little integrated circuits that boards have tens or hundreds of and there are lots and lots of modules so a single component shortage that's worth a few cents can hold up the production of thousands of cars.

You realize that there's likely thousands. Turn signal, gear shift, wipers, headlamps all of the modules. There's chips galore!
