Having issues with my fordpass. Can't control climate in ford pass after activating remote climate . The vehicle will activate the climate control when prompted but stopped allowing me to remotely control or even display the temperature or seat temperature controls on fordpass app. Some people have suggested to reset vehicle systems by disconnecting negative cable on 12v battery.

Tried to disconnect the negative cable but dont really know if I was doing it right. I unbolted the nut but it i didn't feel the negative cable loosening up from the post. What am I missing? Is there anything connected to the negative cable that I need to remove in order to lift up the cable from post? Would it be easier to remove the chassis ground to reset everything?

  1. Wait a minimum of 15 minutes after shutting off car.
  2. Remove top frunk cover
  3. Verify battery voltage is 13.0V or less (DC/DC off)
  4. Loosen 10 mm nut on negative battery terminal.
    1. The nut is captive, meaning it will not come all the way off. Just loosen it a couple turns.
  5. Use two hands to pull straight up on the battery terminal to remove it.
    1. If it is stuck, use a battery terminal puller.
  6. Take a thick glove (insulator) and place it between the terminal and battery post.
  7. Set it down on the glove (so metal can't touch) and wait 5+ minutes.
  8. Lift the terminal, remove the glove, and swiftly drop the terminal straight down on the post.
    1. It will spark a little. Centering the terminal before dropping minimizing sparking
  9. Tighten the 10 mm nut on the negative to hand tight only.
    1. Excessive torque will strip the nut and require terminal replacement
Chassis ground is not as good because it will be sparking like crazy as you try to remove and add the bolt. You want the arcing to happen on the battery post only so there is no damage to the body/paint.

What if i accidentally take the nut off? I was able to tighten it back, didnt know it was a captive type nut. The issue I had was the cable didn't feel loose. Is that normal? According to the excerpt you posted, I should be able just to loosen the nut, and lift the cable off ? Another issue is my right hand doesnt work very well, what if i cant use two hands to pull up the cable? Any suggestions?

Thank you

The terminal can become stuck sometimes and requires a lot of force to remove. I would suggest buying a battery terminal puller then.

You could also pull fuse 11 in the passenger footwell to reset the TCU.

Already pulled TCU fuse. Left out for 10 minutes. Fixed my slow modem issue but not the climate control issue in the app.

Whats the likelihood of a new car having stuck battery terminal? When I get another chance, ill try to follow the instructions you posted. That way I can confirm if its stuck or if I was originally doing it the wrong way. Ill loosen it like it says to do, then see if I can pull up enough on the cable. If not, I just might not mess with it.
