This isn't new news, but I have not seen anyone post yet.

Not sure if this programme exists in other countries, but in Canada Hyundai has a programme for potential customers to try an IONIQ 5 before they buy...kind of.

Essentially you rent the car from Turo, and if you end up buying one, you get your rental fee credited back.

Would you have done this with a Mach-E had it been available?

I would never buy any vehicle before driving it. That said, ordering with a refundable deposit has zero risk. I have seen a handful of people say that a dealership wouldn't let them drive it before signing, and I would have walked out the door.

This was my problem with Rivian. I wanted to drive it and they didn't have that option when they started delivering vehicles. That might have changed now but I didn't move forward with them because of the test drive. Everyone argued with me that they had a return policy and that was the "test" drive but it's NOT the same.

I was lucky enough to find a dealership with a Mach-E tester and drove it twice before ordering. They got the sale because of it. When I told them the story they said "yeah, why would you buy a car without driving it first?". They even had someone drive 800 km round trip for a test drive.

They are currently on their 2nd tester - seems like a solid investment by the dealer.

Because Ford understood that demand was likely to exceed supply, in 2020 they arranged a Ford Courtesy Transportation Program wherein dealers were strongly incentivized to allocate one or more Mach-Es to be fully dedicated to potential customers' use. After a minimum number of miles and months was satisfied for a tester, then the dealer could sell that vehicle.

Lots of people test drove Mach-Es through this FCTP arrangement.

If there was one locally, I probably would have done that. I found a select (knowing it would have less features than the premium I wanted to order) at a Carmax in Alabama about 90 minutes away and drove out there to be able to get eyes and hands on one. It also helped that one of our fave restaurants (Chuy's) was there, so it made a nice little trip. The whole not being able to get eyes/hands on the vehicle is what stopped me from buying the Volvo C40 which in turn reminded me the MME existed. Thanks, Volvo.

I did this. I thought I'd like the car but you never know till you drive it.
