Yesterday, President Biden signed the bipartisan "infrastructure investment and jobs" act into law.
The $1.2 trillion bill provides money for bridge and road repair, but it also provides $7.5 Billion for electric vehicle charging stations, plus $73 billion to upgrade the nation's electric grid to support those chargers and $66 billion to upgrade high speed internet to, in part, connect those chargers.

This is good all around for EV owners, plus it will generate thousands of jobs for contractors and electrical workers and help America be competitive in the growing EV marketplace.

Separate bills are in the works to provide additional tax breaks and rebates for EV purchasers.

I wonder who decides where the federally-funded charging stations will be built? Is our money being used for private sector incentives? Or BidenEVcare network construction?

From what I read, EV charging $$$ will be paid to the states by the federal DOT based on a formula. The state DOTs would then do the installs.

In New Jersey the state seems to be putting priority on major highway rest stops and tourist sites hoping to bring in EV tourists from neighboring states. Locals it seems are expected to charge in their garage.

If this is the case, here in Colorado, they will install chargers in government facilities and near the offices of public officials. It should be an open bid, but that will never ever happen here.

There's one thing that will happen for sure. New York and California will get the lion's share of the money while Texas and Florida will be left out.
