iPhone 15 Pro GPS is worthless!

Are you an AT&T customer perchance? I figured out that the old plan I was on was being severely throttled, had to upgrade to get off Throttling. Updating my plan helped and but it still happens sometimes at peak traffic.

I also moved to plugin, because I was using an old phone that would overheat on the charger. Every time I’d lose signal, the phone was hot and on the wireless charger.

Glad I’m not the only Seattlite having trouble.

I did about 3 1/2 hours of driving today. I tried the location services truck before leaving. Zero difference. It still sucks big time. To be fair, I generally have only a few apps that can always you location services anyway.

Back to using Native Nav. I sincerely regret this phone.

Out of curiosity, how does your new phone perform in a different car, or walking, etc? We've been driving all over the island and it's been spot on here with CarPlay and on long walks. We're in a rental car, not in a Mach-E though.

My other car is a 2006 Tacoma. What’s GPS? What’s CarPlay? Got a CD?

I could give it a try in my wife’s Raptor. Small screen sync 3. Very different phone location too. It doesn’t like passing gas stations though.

One other thing, I drove the car on the 13th with the iPhone 12 ProMax. I almost always have Waze up for speed traps even though I rarely navigate with it (and never navigate on Waze). The past 3 days though I’ve been tour guide on the opposite side of the island. I got the 15 on the 13th. Did the setup and transfer of stuff then ran an errand in the mme and the gps was haywire in it. The difference was literally one phone and 3 or so hours. The last update was a week or so beforehand, 6.1.0. 2021 so it’s in a holding pattern there.

Odd, my experience is quite the opposite. Our iPhone’s (15 pro max now, used to be 13 and 14) all have been spot on, the built in GPS is frequently (some locations, once or twice a week … and for a while periodically at home … which screwed up charging) wrong. For us the “fix” is to disconnect CarPlay and navigate solely by phone when/if necessary.

If your phone is small enough, put it in the sunglasses holder up by the top glass. I find that when I'm having gps dropouts it fixes the problem right away. I have an iPhone 15 Pro.

Yeah, no. Same carrier as the last one, different generation phone, literally the only difference.

I wouldn't call it a theory, this is a know GPS issue that can develop in all IOS versions. It's just how engineering decided to implement location services with all the data. It sometimes gets to be too much and should be cleared. When I worked for Apple this was a common case that happened after almost every iPhone launch. We always directed support teams to clear location services as a first troubleshooting step as it's the least invasive. Then move deeper in their service guide as needed from there.

99% of the time it worked, other it needed a reinstall of iOS or full erase and set up as new to resolve it.

We used the analogy that after all the software updates, it was like a pizza that you kept adding new toppings too. Eventually it's going to taste bad. Update after Update can cause a buildup of bad data that just needs to be purged. The trouble is that iCloud backups bring back a lot of this bad data, so moving from iPhone to iPhone brings all the junk with it.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max was excellent. My iPhone 14 Pro gps sucked so bad in the MME. I tried doing a full reset as well and still was horrible. My iPhone 15 Pro Max is also horrible.

Like I said in my post, if you restored your data from iCloud, you brought it right back. Follow the previous steps mentioned about reseting locations services.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max does just fine and I've had an iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max each of the past years.

I went to the nearby coast today. There’s a boatload of roadwork so I had Apple Map and Waze up at various times. I am pleased to say that according to Apple Maps I took my Mach-e on an early whale watching voyage! It’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

I’m actually seriously considering returning the phone. I still have the 12 pro max which worked virtually perfectly. Location services fix didn’t.

But here's the thing, have you actually followed the other steps such as restore the device (With a Mac or PC, NOT just erase all settings and content) or fully erase and set up as new without your data to see if the issue persists then? Have to follow troubleshooting to isolate the issue to resolve it...

I have an iPhone 13. If I have the phone in my right back pocket I get lousy GPS accuracy on the big screen and navigation is difficult. As soon as I put the phone in the front cup holders, or put it in the area where the wireless charging pad is, I instantly get an accurate location and navigation works fine. Been this way since I got the car and the phone. I've gotten in the habit of always pulling my phone out and putting it there now. Unfortunately, I don't always remember to grab it when leaving the car.

Yup. Did all of that long before I posted here. The GPS is only one of a slew of things amiss.

In brief, I’m on the third full setup for this thing

1. Out of the box and setup from iCloud full backup. Nothing transferred over other than the apps. It looked the same but all settings were wrong, zero passwords transferred. Password keychain was empty. Will not accept google passwords regardless of settings. GPS. CarPlay. A few others. In other words, almost no data transferred.
2. A complete wipe and restored from encrypted local file. Same results.
3. Complete wipe (factory reset). Built from scratch. And same results although I get to rebuild every single password from scratch cause the password keychain is empty and google pe manager doesn’t work. (regardless of the 12’s settings). That’s way fun. ironically , I got the 15 because the 12 was not quite right in some ways, and always had been.?‍

I’m heading past the company owned AT&T store tomorrow afternoon. I have other business there as well. It’s likely history.
