Ford entered the battle a day late and a dollar short. It’s a shame.
I don’t agree with that either. I moved from LEAF to the MME. There weren’t that many options in 2021

I wouldn’t be so harsh. It’s a fantastic car.
Didn’t say it wasn’t, but by the time there’s a refresh, manufacturers that maintained their commitment to EVs will be well beyond.

Ford entered the race late, then bailed when it got tough. People will remember.

It’s not 2021 any longer. This is a marathon. Ford had the opportunity to enter the race at the start. It intentionally and deliberately passed on it. Instead, they entered at the 5K mark and bailed at the 10K mark on the uphill. It’s a well earned DNF.

Is it a beautiful run-around that can fit teenagers, their junk, and can occasionally road trip the 400 miles to grandma (is it a RWD standard range)? I like its chances.
Yes, all those years hauling kids to soccer, piano/violin lessons. And then taking them and their friends to the movies in a RAV4, I would have loved a CUV as slick as this thing.

If Ford's next gen UV platform starts with a pickup "with the interior room of a RAV4" it'll be like the Hyundai Santa Cruz if you've seen those. That size vehicle is close in wheelbase length and width and height to our current MME.

So I think that leaves plenty of room for another slick four-door CUV, just call it the Mach 3 and I'll probably sign on again LOL

Ford’s new universal platform (a skateboard design iirc)
They're all skateboards, aren't they? AFAIK, nearly every EV since the EV-1 has been based on the General Motors skateboard design. Including the original Mach-E.

I expect you're right, but I can't think of anything the Mustang is missing that's important to me. I know some people want faster DC charging. Is there any other major feature on which Ford has fallen behind? Or is it just minor things like fuel efficiency tweaks and software bells and whistles?

FSD has been "almost here" for 10 years. I'd give it another 10.
Almost is not the same as there, but as we know, you can basically let it drive now

20 feet is tight? I think it turns like an aircraft carrier.
Non GTs have a tighter turning radius than the Taycan, if it's without rear axle steering. As well as the Model 3 performance.

GTs have a tighter turning radius than the Ioniq 5 N

Well, as long as we’re being delusional, might I suggest a revival of the Ford Ranchero as an EV? And a throwback EV Thunderbird. Yeah I’d be back for one of those. ;)

Boats, every one of them!

My big, fat Lexus LS400 had a turning radius of 17' 4". No Mustang comes close. I miss it terribly.

Ask any of my friends and they'll tell you that I do get a kick out of the El Camino Ranchero nature of the Hyundai Santa Cruz

With there being less and less convertibles out there, I think a Thunderbird convertible like the picture you attached above might be a good seller if they did it better than the last one.

No manufacturer is going to risk an EV convertible at this point though. And Ford's definitely not going to take market share from the Mustang convertible

I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like about my MME, but I still think their point is correct.

Ford is really making a bad decision here and it’s going to affect their reputation with EVs. This is even going to push current owners away from choosing another Ford as their next EV. I mean why go with a brand that is taking steps back rather than going all in? Why would anyone buy an EV from a manufacturer that cannot stand behind its EVs?

You’re either all in or you’re out in this climate.

There are a boatload, several boatloads in fact, of convertible Mustangs around here. Then again, I live in Hawaii, and they're all rentals. But an EV Thunderbird with a retractable hard top perhaps. Yeah, I'd sign up for that in a New York minute.

I don't know but I see a ton of Mach E's around the Augusta GA area now. I was one of the first in the area and now there is like 5 in just my neighborhood alone. I'll be honest the slower charging speed really doesn't bother me. I've taken multiple long trips with my car and 30 minutes vs 20 isn't really a deal breaker for me. I guess if you are traveling 1000 plus miles a lot then maybe that's an issue but 5 to 6 hours of travel is the max I take anymore. As for the tech, I'm cool with what i have and the new BC is awesome from what I have experienced

After the Mach-E launched, Darren Palmer stated they would be doing many things including tweaking the charging curve for people that didn't abuse the power. They never did, but improved the Lightning charging curve.

All I can say is wow. The environment has changed drastically in the US and if you want to live for another day you need to also change. Every auto maker was investing billions of dollars in battery plants only to have all of that stop in the current environment because of lower sales and a governement that is doing everything in their power to stop turbines, solar panels and batteries. They only thing US companies can do against that, to hedge the bets is invest overseas and hope that they get a return on their investment there and then when things change in the US be able to bring back those products to the US. To continue to invest here is suicidal. For companies like Ford that have alternatives with hybrid and gas they need to invest there in the short term. Tesla has no alternative except build robots and AI. They too are changing their investments becuase they have to. You can fight it all you want but the bottom line is what wins in the end. I don't like it at all but that is where we are.
