What does any of your racing metaphor even mean? Rephrase in terms of short-and long-term profitability. Because that’s all that matters, and all that should matter, to Ford.
I’m truly sorry that you're incapable of understanding the metaphor. You one lolo buggah dude. :)

Believe what you want, buy what you like. It’s your mind and your money.
Correct. This is the right mindset. Buy what is the best option for you that is available in the market at the time.

But then you say…

But I am done with Ford in totality. We will never buy another Ford of any sort.
What? Again, why are you treating this like some kind of betrayal? WHAT HAVE YOU LOST? Answer that question. WHAT HAVE YOU LOST?

There’s an awful lot of angst and anger in your posts about all of this. And here I thought this was a discussion.

‘25 Mach E GT
One could then ask “why aren’t Americans buying more of them?”
Yes, why not

it is because they are expensive and charging infrastructure is not there. Relying solely on fast chargers is not convenient. The technology is not there

Even among Mach E sales itself the GT is a not a massive number

So Ford is doing exactly what they should. What is the problem? You want him to pull a better FSD out of thin air? To build a state of the art Chinese car customized to American tastes? Sure, it would be nice if they could do that. Even if they could it might be at a loss

Jim Farley said in September wait six months and something better will be unveiled. Might be just another announcement, an update on progress, but that'll be good even so. We'll see

Ford wants to make Bolts affordable, desirable cars. it needs to make them to survive and to thrive and to take mindshare. Otherwise the entire non truck market will be taken by China (worldwide), Tesla, and even GM (stateside) with the actual Bolt/Equinox or equivalent

PS I said earlier I already decided my next car might not be a Ford. This is why I have a lease. I had realistic expectations to begin with. But I am rooting for them; they did a great job

What have you lost??? I do not understand the mindset!
My confidence in ford as an EV manufacturer. That should’ve already been self explanatory.

Mind you, my intention was to replace my Mach-E with another Mach-E and that’s unlikely now due to my lack of confidence with Ford as an EV manufacturer.

So yes, kind of, I didn’t lose anything but Ford will with this direction when it comes to current owners and potential buyers.

Here’s a partial list of discontinued EV models by manufacturers. This does not include models that were planned but dropped (vaporware as @Kamuelaflyer likes to say). It seems a lot of manufacturers are having profitability issues with EVs.
serious question: does anyone know if the Chinese manufacturers are profitable if you discount the government subsidies?

  • Discontinuation Reason: Low sales and market impact.
Ford

After hearing and reading several articles about Fords investments and strategies for its Model “E” Line of vehicles, concentrating more on Hybrid rather than all Electric. I’m wondering how much longer the Mach-E will be in production? If you go to the Ford web site, they don’t even have the 2026 advertised. Usually by now there saying something, maybe I missed it. I have a 2023 and was looking to upgrade to a 2026 or 2027 when available.
Anyone have any official inside info, or anything official?

Don't forget that the 25s just started delivering about 5 months ago! :)

Sorry if it comes across angry. I just find irrational thinking very fascinating. Would love to understand your thought process. I just don’t understand what you’ve invested in the Ford Mustang Mach E that you would lose if the line is discontinued after 6-7 years. Pleas explain.

Ok. Appreciate the honest answer. Would you agree that this is more of an emotional/sentimental than rational reason?

For example, why would you instinctively want to replace your Mach E with another one in a few years? What if, in a few years, there are some other makes/models that are simply better?

For me, that’s all I care about. I love my First Edition but I’m not invested - financially or otherwise - in the Ford ecosystem. It wouldn’t cost me a thing to switch to something different and better in a few years.

Maybe there’s a lot of folks on this board who are in “the Ford family” for whom it’s very important that their next car not only be an EV, but a Ford?

What would I lose personally? Not a damn thing. My opinion isn't relevant. What Ford will lose is a lot. The mach-e is a dead horse walking. Ford's EV program is dead is effectively dead; they just won't tell us. Ford has decided to ride out the ICE motor vehicle era and be done with it. They're just not honest about it. They're a whaling company of the mid-19th century.

Interesting. So you don’t think Ford can aggressively re-enter the EV space once significantly better battery tech becomes available? I’m not sure why not, or why it makes sense to keep losing money manufacturing current EVs not enough people want just to stay visible in the space.

The business decision I never understood was Ford exiting the sedan market. Selling nothing but mustangs and suvs and trucks and not even producing one Fusion or Fiesta for the plebes - even though I realize the profit margin was much lower - seemed awfully narrow-sighted.

No. They’ll have a track record of bailing out as soon as things get rough. Their advertising campaign will have to borrow from the old Rocky & Bullwinkle Show:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Is there a future for the Mach-E? 1766097097713-6x

once significantly better battery tech becomes available?
Significantly better battery has always been and is always going to be just around the corner. It’s not happening anytime soon.
why it makes sense to keep losing money manufacturing current EVs
You just explained why the Mach-e’s days are numbered. Ford is lying and people are eating it up.
never understood was Ford exiting the sedan market
Because they weren’t selling, because Ford can’t make a sedan to save its life. On the rare occasion it has had a good sedan, it immediately sets about ruining it.

Great question! I’d love to learn more about this.
China has been reducing the subsidies starting in 2022, from the massive amount they started pouring into EV development starting in 2009.

They still exist, like tax exemptions, direct cash is gone, but basically, they are now targeting what they want produced like higher-tech EVs and reduced low-end model. In 2026 the focus shifts phase out of tax exemptions.

All the more reason to wait, then? Current battery tech seems to require too many trade offs for too much of the market. It’s just a recipe for Ford to keep losing a lot of money! Battery tech did jump from NiMH to Li-Ion. It will make a commensurate jump in the future.

Because they weren’t selling, because Ford can’t make a sedan to save its life. On the rare occasion it has had a good sedan, it immediately sets about ruining it.
I loved my Fusion Hybrid. The Fusion had a great run and probably should have remained to compete with the Camry and Accord.
