Saw this a while back (maybe on this forum?). I took the Mach-e coupe that is reference to be a 4 door coupe, not a Mustang 2 door.

  • Current Mach-E (CX727) end of production: June 2026
  • Second gen Mach-E (CX733) start of production: July 2026, end of production 2033
  • Mach-E Coupe (CX799) start of production: July 2026, end of production 2031

Crossovers have mostly become the choice of most in the US, and increasingly so in Europe. Skateboard construction aids and abets it.

The model 3, Model S, etron GT and Porsche Taycan are all within 1” of height of the Ford Mustang (55-56”).

Must not be an issue. ?‍♂

I think they all made SUVs because small crossovers are much larger sellers than coupes or sedans.

The problem is they flooded the market with new BEV crossovers as they all had the same idea at the same time.
Every car you mentioned is taller than a vanilla Mustang. Looks like the Model 3 is almost 2 inches taller. Model S is an inch taller. Etron GT is about half an inch taller. It's undeniably a packaging problem for a sports car (yes, it might still have a lower center of gravity, but that's another argument).

Go stand next to a Mustang, get out the ruler and imagine it an inch taller.

Not a problem.

And those sedans I listed could likely easily be an inch lower if they designed them as such, but that’s not really what sedans are going for.

Either way, electric sports cars and coupes are on the way.

What is the obsession with needing to drive a Greyhound Bus for commuters? We don't need any more "Full-Size" vehicles of any kind! We need more mid and compact vehicles that actually fit on narrow roads and inner city streets. People need to give up the idea that they need to drive a tank to feel safe. Then everyone also needs to drive a tank so they don't get run over by the one in the tank. It's failed logic of the masses.

With tall 5000+lb vehicles roaming around the streets with distracted drivers, I no longer find sedans to be a preferred car type. I want enough height and size to avoid being rolled over. My first thought when looking at these giant cars (cyber truck, f150, and rivian) is: “the other guy doesn’t have a chance”

Because if you cram half the little league team in the back of your VW Rabbit today, you're going to jail. Owning a small car for even one child is basically a non-starter today. You can't even fit a car seat in many of them.

And because they are comfortable, the view from high up is better (and safer), you can transport more stuff (and people), you can tow more stuff, and the occupants are better protected in an accident.

Roads and parking spaces need to be made wider to accommodate what people want to drive.

As electric vehicles, they are more versatile. A cross over and SUV platform is so popular in the US because of their versatility. As ICE vehicles, I would agree, but as BEV the cross over platform seems like the best balance for the US market.

SUV and Cross-Over vehicles were produced and sold to the public because the manufactures found a loop-hole in the EPA regulations for fuel mileage regulations. They invented a new class so they could ignore the EPA, and marketed it to the public as the best new thing since sliced bread.

Backwards in the name of the mighty dollar and all the sheeple sucked it up.

Go do a little research about it. Cars were getting 35 to 40 MPG in the 80's and early 90's. Now we celebrate when a sedan or SUV get over 25 MPG. WTF?

The more modular the better for Ford.

Still, would like them to develop one for a sports car with the same driving dynamics as the current Mustang Coupe/Convertibles. I will just keep on hoping.
Can you imagine a 480 horsepower Ford version of a Mazda Miata? Sign me up!

Yup. But they didn’t “find” a loop-hole, they spent millions in lobbying money to create that loop-hole. That doesn’t really apply to EVs though, since EVs are not combusting fuel. Emissions are already zero. My comment was in regards the BEV not ICE cross overs and SUVs.

We who?

Some (lots of) people have 4 kids and/or don’t live in the city.

People buy what they need or what they want.

But if cars were sold solely based on “need” the Corvette would never have existed.
