My Tesla charges the 12 volt battery 4 times a day. It recharges when the 12 volt battery SOC drops to 50%. If the BIG battery gets below 20%, I think, it stops keeping the 12 volt battery charged. I added a 12 gauge wire with a 20 amp fuse near the battery. The other end of the wire is a power pole connector that is bolted to the top of the steel cross beam. I have the older car with a nosecone that can be "popped" off to gain access to the steel cross beam. If I need the frunk to open I can operate the two frunk latches manually. Newer cars, that don't have a nosecone, have other provisions to open the frunk mechanically.

I'm currently pondering how to do something similar to my Mach-E.

I have a pack of these

12 volt batteries somewhere that I plan to test to see they will open the frunk.

That would be cool if they work. Should be easy to secure one behind the little door in the bumper cover.
Unfortunately the 12 volt battery has to be dead to test it. Remove two really hard to remove plastic panels and then disconnect the negative lead of the battery.

I thought I read that there was a fuse that could be pulled to trick the system, but I may be thinking of something else.
