Had my Mach-E (2021 UK car) and having a bit of an issue working out why the illuminated keypad on the door will not unlock the car.

The car didn't come with the card showing the factory code but I managed to read the 7 digit code off the BCM in the passenger footwell. However, if I try to use it to unlock the car, whilst the numbers are illuminated and the small red LED flashes each time I enter a digit, the car does not unlock.

I'm pretty sure I have the correct factory code as it is accepted in the add user remote code page in the vehicle settings.

I wonder if it's been disabled. I tried the turn on/off keyless as seen in a couple of posts but my car does not seem to have the 'OK' button - unless it's the one on the steering wheel.

Any ideas?

The only OK button in the vehicle is the one on the steering wheel to my knowledge.

Thanks for confirming that. I’ll try holding it down for longer.

In my experience, you simply push the button. You don't hold it down, unless it's a feature to reset, where you then hold it while a bar moves across showing you it working.

OK, tried holding it down and just giving a short press but nothing happens. I tried it when I was in the Lock menu (as described in the procedure) and also in the remote code section but nothing. I wonder if the procedure has changed during an OTA update?
Otherwise I may drop into my local Ford dealer and see if they have any idea.

In the US, we can add codes via the external keypad.

I looks like you can use the keypad to add them here in the UK too but it just doesn't seem to want to play ball on my car. I've given up and the car is booked into my local Ford dealer for them to have a go.

It does lead me to have another question regarding security... If the master code always works and owners can add their own code, when you buy a used car, doesn't that mean that any previous owner could get into the car since they would know the master code?

So after a bit of diagnosis at my local Ford dealer, they have confirmed that the keypad is faulty and a new one is being fitted under warranty.
Good to know it wasn’t down to me being stupid and not knowing how to use it properly!
