W T F is L?!
If you use 1PD then L is redundant. (Pressing the button in the center of the range dial will have no effect)

If you have 1PD turned off, then L switches from standard regen to a much more aggressive braking effect (while lifting foot off the accelerator pedal). If you are a big rig driver, it might be similar to the differences between lifting off the throttle while in gear and foot off the clutch (normal retardation) vs using the exhaust or Jake brake (aggressive retardation).

Really makes me wonder what Ford is planning for the eF-150. With a 12,000 lb. trailer in tow it cant use full regen coming down a mountain or it will cook the battery. They will need to get creative there..... ?

ICC is just ACC with the addition of automatically adjusting to changes in the speed limit.
But still wont crash into a slower car ahead.... correct?

MME button in the middle of the shift knob. In EVs, L just means more regen when you let up on the accelerator pedal. In most EVs, there is only one "gear", so there is no traditional downshift, either manual or automatic. (even if it was not a serious question, someone scanning through the posts might need more info).

Oh, I was serious lol. Couldnt understand why an electric motor with one gear has an 'L'.

Glad to hear conclusively that L ==> "one demand" 1PD and is effectively nothing when already in 1PD. I drive in unbridled with 1PD all the time and hadn't felt any diff with L on, so flag I'm not insane.

I agree - L has always seemed like a curious choice. What is so "Low" about regen?

I always thought it was the same as L mode on some of my old pickups. Which was a low speed gear with tons of power. Which made no sense for an EV.

When I first saw it in my Bolt and understood what it meant, I just assumed they re-purposed an existing gear shift knob that had L on it for some other purpose. Struck me as sloppy/lame.

But now we see it on multiple EVs. I still think it's wrong, but then again, I never got over wireless networking being called WiFi (Wireless Fidelity???? WTF) and yet it's the new normal ;-)

Correct. ICC is just an add-on to ACC.
Okay thanks.
In my case, since all the freeways are 65 mph then ICC really won't do anything different I don't think. Might be handy when I leave town though..... ?

Yeah. It's a tricky one for sure. Some EVs call that "B" for brake. Ford calls it "L" because that is what most people are used to seeing. "Limited coast" or "Limit downhill speed"????

The obvious choice is "R" but that one is spoken for already... :)

Yeah, ICC won't really do much more than ACC when you're driving on a highway with a consistent speed limit. It will come in handy for me because a lot of my trips are on 50mph state roads that pass through 35mph towns constantly.

That is a good way to describe it. L is like On Demand 1PD with the exception it won't bring the vehicle to a full stop. You will still have to use the brake pedal. But that is about the best description that I have heard yet for the "L" feature. ?

I never thought about WiFi.......that is curious. ?

"3D Printing" is the biggest misnomer ever. It's not printing at all. Should have been called "3D Rendering". (My OCD is showing!) ?

I’m curious how 1PD causes nausea. I have a daughter who is very prone to motion sickness. Is this related to that?
Probably. I get nauseous in cars with a manual transmission (if I'm the passenger). Just jerkier I guess.

Is time they redid the buttons in a mustang

G - giddy up or go
N - not moving
B - back it up horsey
S - stopped
L - lazy horse

So it does work for L

I’ve come to choose Whisper as my mode of choice with a heavy hand on the L button. I’m used to a manual transmission so one hand on the wheel is normal for me. I just like the feel that the heavy MME has when coasting. I use the L button to turn on regen when coming to a stop or slowing. Seems to keep my efficiency fairly high.
I read that the most efficient EV driving is coasting first followed by regen and then braking.

Been falling in love a little bit with the "L" button on the range selector dial.
I had that same setting on my Focus Electric but didn't need to use it all that often.
The Mach-E is larger and much heavier so I find that I use it much more frequently now.

I drive with 1PD turned off most of the time, for several reasons but mostly because it makes me nauseous sometimes and makes my wife nauseous almost immediately.

So a big "THANK YOU!" to Ford for including the "L" range AND for making it a button in the center of that dial (vs another setting to rotate into). It is so easy to reach down and find that button and engage L range without having to take my eyes off the road. Because this vehicle is so heavy, I find the normal regen while in Engage mode isn't enough under certain scenarios so the ability to temporarily select more regen is very helpful. Again, this wasn't an issue in my Focus Electric but that is a light car so standard regen was fine. In the Mach-E......I need more regen from time to time but not often enough to suffer through 1PD the entire day. Some common scenarios where I use "L" range:
  1. Exiting an elevated freeway where the off ramp runs downhill with a traffic light down at the bottom.
  2. Driving down a serpentine exit or ramp in a multi level parking garage.
  3. Cloverleaf ramps from an elevated roadway onto a lower freeway (we have a lot of those here).
  4. Construction and School zones
  5. Bumper to bumper traffic on surface streets at congested intersections
I have never even used “L” yet! Is it like a Jake Brake, but EV regen!? I’m definitely trying it tomorrow! Thanks.
