Agree, MME OPD is just L + brake near stop. L might still be good for D drivers for things like down hill driving? OTOH, I guess I see your point about training, D driver's just need to add the final brake aspect, and then they are the same.

if you turn 'on' the traction hold, you don't need the brake, ever.... unless you misjudge the distance needed for regen to handle it.

Not sure what the science is behind it. I just know I feel sick to my stomach when I drive in 1PD or in Unbridled (with 1PD off) for too long. My daughter was driving the car yesterday while my wife and I were in the back and we had to ask her to turn it off before we got really sick back there.
Oh wow, sorry to hear that. I was curious if my daughter will have similar issues

I use "ENGAGE" 99% of time with 1PD. At first, my wife had same reaction. But after a day or two of practicing with it she can't even tell I'm using it. The trick is not to take your foot off the pedal until you're close to wanting to stop. There is no "coast" in 1PD, but you can really dial in how your power is used.
Yeah, I can do it but my foot gets tired. It is much less tiring for me to leave 1PD turned off, probably because most of my driving is at highway speeds and most of my destinations are a short distance from the off ramps so I don't spend too much time on surface streets.
Plus there are a couple other reasons why I prefer to drive without that feature.

Interesting fact is that the L button has NO effect when 1-pedal mode is active. The L button seems intended as a 'trainer' for people to explicitly engage regen while getting used to the aggressive regen available in 'unbridled' mode 1-p

It takes practice to develop a steady accelerator foot, and moderate letting off accelerator to prevent hurkey jerky accell/regen, and then even more practice to be feather-light on the mechanical brake when the regen isn't enough.

But once you get it, you won't need the L button... you'll be in 1-p all the time!
I've driven several EVs with 1PD (Tesla, Bolt, Nissan) and I just don't car for it. I understand how it works and it's great that many people like it. Just isn't for everyone. So, for those of us that prefer to drive without it....the "L" mode can be handy under some conditions. Glad that Ford doesn't make us use 1PD. That would have been a deal breaker for me.

I’m curious how 1PD causes nausea. I have a daughter who is very prone to motion sickness. Is this related to that?
It's really similar to coming off the throttle aggressively in a stickshift car -the engine braking will cause a sudden lurch in everyone while decelerating. And then a lurch backward when accelerating again.

However, much like in a manual trans, the driver can learn to shift smoothly (or with 1-pedal drive, to accelerate and decelerate smoothly) to minimize those nausea effects.

I agree, I am not a fan of 1PD at all and don’t see what’s so great about it when the brake pedal has regen built in. Glad they put in the L button for the reasons you stated.

Have you used or tried Intelligent Cruise Control it looks like in your situation it would work perfectly and would be less fatigue for your foot on your highway parts.

1PD is a lot like learning to drive a clutch. Some folks have a very short learning curve and can drive a stick so well that a blindfolded person may think it an automatic. Others will still be jerking the car after 6 months of learning.
good analogy; that's about what it feels like at first!

I have not. If I understand correctly, ICC simply matches the speed limit plus whatever mph over you specify. Is that correct?

I have been using Adaptive Cruise Control quite often. Almost to the point where I am pretty close to using it every time get on the freeway. That is very relaxing because I can set my comfort level to the vehicle ahead and the car will adjust the speed to match the traffic ahead of me. Seems quite useful so far.

Doesn't ICC automatically have ACC or vice versa?

W T F is L?!
Ok I'll bite, if this is a serious question.

Look down at the shifter knob, on it you'll find a button labelled 'L' (shifter knob is commonly called PRNDL--the L in that acronym).
