I should have heeded all your warnings, but nope. I’m stuck 45 minutes from home and now waiting on an expensive Uber round trip to home to get my fob. Hey @FoMoCo I have a last minute Christmas gift idea for all of us. Make this feature reliable!

And no, my backup start passcode doesn’t work either. Neither does my fiancée’s code. I’ve tried what we know them to be and nearly every iteration of mistakes we could have made. But neither work.

Keep one fob in the car in an extremely well hidden spot. Use a faraday bag or faraday case or remove the battery and put everything in a bag and hide that. A fob without a battery should still work if you put it in the holder in the center armrest compartment.

Pro Tip: The glovebox isn’t a good hiding spot.

I’ve been super hesitant to do this for security reasons, but just put a faraday bag on the Christmas list. Either that or a new car.

I only had this happen (about one year ago) when a FordPass support rep told me to delete my PaaK even though I already told him several times that I didn't have my physical key. When he insisted by exasperatedly telling me "Just do it!" I reminded him one more time and did it. Then he told me to start the car. When I asked him how and reminded him that I already told him I didn't have my physical key, he hung up on me. Of course, with PaaK removed, there's no backup start code so I was totally screwed. ??

Sorry this happened to you. I know the pain. ??

I have a small faraday cage that just barely holds the fob. I have it attached with industrial grade Velcro to a well hidden spot in the cabin. A thief looking for a hidden key is reasonably unlikely especially if it’s not in the usual spots. It is a risk of course. You could carry a fob and just use that but if you go do, ensure you have a working backup start code just in case.

You don’t have your factory door code? You can use that to make a new backup code. But this situation rarely happens, wonder what the deal is. I’m exclusive PAAK unless I’m way out of town.

I don't think the door pillar code has anything to do with the backup start code. I think you need to have the fob to create a new start code.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just keep your key fob on you? Or easier yet for Ford to have their feature work as designed?

I hate carrying keys. Not just the MME fob, house keys, Tacoma key, Jeep key, Raptor key, mailbox key, cockpit key (pre-2001 edition as a conversation piece), and lock keys. Pretty much anything called a key or serving the same function. Just don't like having them. PAAK has almost always worked perfectly for me for the past 18 months. A few hiccups but that's it.

Now, if your particular neurosis doesn't include fobs, yes it would be easier.;)

Don't need a faraday bag. Just don't install the battery. Your key can still start the car if you put the fob in the slot in the center console. Most thieves wouldn't know this.

But that lacks the ability to say "I bought a Faraday bag"...
