I’ve searched and unable to find exactly what I am looking for.

I have access to a level 2 for a few days and want to make sure I’m preconditioning correctly.
Ford App > energy > schedule departure time > all departure times > ready by > date and cabin comfort?

Reason I’m asking I’m at a hotel offering L2 but outside and having chilly AM.

Cabin comfort? Off?

Thank you!

When you set a Departure Time the car warms the battery, and optionally the cabin, to prepare it for driving. If its cold, its best to warm the cabin to preserve your range, otherwise you will consume battery power to get the cabin up to temperature. I wouldn't consider this "pre-conditioning". Pre-conditioning the battery gets the battery to optimal temperature for DC fast charging. To pre-condition you use the car's navigation system to go to a fast charging station. The car will then get the battery ready for your arrival at the charging station.

You mean I’ve had it all wrong all this time? I thought that was also precondition the battery in the AMs. Okay so just warming up the car to avoid less battery usage

Departure time preconditions the battery for driving. Whether this is useful or not depends on a variety of things. I'm not an expert on this but from what I've gathered it's good to do if temperatures are low (below 40ish) and you're driving more than about 20mi. More important the colder it is. Less than that and you might be spending more electricity warming the battery than you gain through efficiency.

Also helpful to warm the cabin on wall power so you don't burn through battery charge initially warming it up.

If you're not paying for electricity, definitely do it. If you're paying for electricity and it's not crazy cold and you're just driving a few miles, just warm the cabin. Longer trip? Precondition.

Is the needs for pre-condition only for L3 charging?
If so, wouldn't the fact that you are driving to the charger, the battery should be warm when you arrive.

Precondition is not just for L3. No the HVB is not necessarily at the best temp for fastest charging at L3 due to normal operation so many appear to precondition on their way to a charger.

But there is no indication that preconditioning is actually taking place correct?

No. You have no visual indication. If you're astute, you'll notice the sound of the battery cooling pump running but that doesn't always mean heating is happening.
