In Alaska seniors can get a permanent registration that no longer requires annual/semi-annual renewal. I hope they never change things for EV’s.
HawaIi has just instituted an EV road tax with a choice of choosing a flat annual fee or a per mile fee ($8 per 1000 miles.) The latter works out best if you drive your EV very little (7000 mi or less)...otherwise, the flat fee is pretty reasonable at $50.
It was obviously lawmakers who raised it, but that wasn't the question. It would also take them to change it again to a mileage-based program.
Why would revenue decrease if it was simply apportioned more fairly?
Stop being so obsequious. I'm saying that many EV drivers don't think it's fair to be charged a flat fee to recover lost gas taxes when the gas taxes, by their very nature, are greatly affected by how much one drives. Those who agree with that statement should write their state reps if they want it changed. No revenue would be lost if they did it differently, so it's not a question of the total amount of taxes collected. If others DO think it's fair, that's great for them. They need not do anything, as it's currently going the way they want.
