When I used to touch the lock icon the lights would flash and the doors would lock and the mirrors would fold in.
After having some recall work done the mirrors have stopped folding in but the doors lock and the lights flash.
When I push the door button and open and close the door then things work.
Sounds like a faulty or dirty sensor. The question is where is the sensor and how do I test and or clean it.

This is not a settings issue. The folding mirror setting is on. The problem seems to be that some sensor is not detecting that the door is not closed or some other pre-requirement for the mirrors to fold.
I close the driver's door as i normally do and touch the lock icon and the lights flash and the mirrors do not fold. I then reopen the door and close it again and touch the lock button and this time the lights flash and the mirrors fold.

Hi there, James. This door locking sensor concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Mach-E. Should you need further assistance, please send us a DM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer and I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end. I love this option, but I thought the first time I tried this when I started the car it would "unfold" the mirrors. Today however, I have noticed that I can drive down the street with them folded if I don't remember to unfold them.

Is this the expected behavior?

No. When they autofold upon locking, then unfold upon unlocking. If you fold them manually, then you have to unfold them.

thanks. I'll try resetting this and see how it goes.

Which "lock icon?" Do you mean the touch point on the driver's door? The touch point on one of the other doors? The 7-8 + 9-0 touch point combination on the driver's door? The physical lock button in the door panel? ??

Anyhow, I agree with Rick that in the process of updating modules a setting parameter probably got munged since the doors are actually locking. I would go through all of your settings to ensure they are correctly set. ??

Ok so boom...

I have had this problem as well. There are two ways to go about it.

1) I have noticed that the same little lock icon above the door open button is on every door. It has been my experience that after you get out, press that button on any door EXCEPT the driver door and it works every time. Also do more of a "swipe" motion past that icon to activate it.

2) If your car is equipped with the exterior code to open the door you can simultaneously press the 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time and that will also lock the doors (Same as all Ford models since beginning of time lol).

Bonus tip: If your car has been updated so that you can open the frunk with your FordPass app or the main screen... entering your door code plus pressing 5/6 immediately after entering the code will pop open the frunk :)

Hope this helps!

I have noticed that the mirrors open and close along with the liftgate. That may be involved.

The touch point on the door column.
When it fails I can touch it as many times as I want and the mirrors don’t fold.
Open and close the door and one touch and it’s all good.

Yes it's probably a setting issue/glitch after an OTA update. You need to cycle the folding mirror option OFF and then back ON. Also cycle the mirrors folded and unfolded with the fold mirror button on the door panel. Then I bet they will fold when you lock the car.

The folding setting needs to be recycled since it may not accurately reflect the current state.

Also make sure you don't have any other key fobs or PAAK in the car when trying to lock it, since that can cause issues.

I agree it’s a synchronization issue, not a settings issue. Probably happened when I had the HVBJB recall and a software update was installed at the same time.
It would be nice if I could recreate it with certainty so I could know if it’s fixed.

That icon isn’t a button. It doesn’t push. It’s a sensor. Pushing on it impedes its operation. Thats why the swipe works for you. A tap will also suffice.
