2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select
For those of you that have had your Mach-E for 2+ years or at high mileage are you seeing any degradation of range yet? I recently traded in my 2012 Nissan Leaf for a 2021 Select Std range AWD. Even though the Leaf only had 16k miles on it the battery was at 62% of the 25Kwh battery. I'm curious how long the battery life is going to be on the Mach-E.

Let me tell you about the Leaf’s liquid thermal management system. You know, the liquid coolant loops and coolant plates to actively manage battery temperature:

IT DOESN'T HAVE ONE. Leaf batteries ARE NOT liquid cooled or heated, unlike modern electric vehicles.

Extensive Tesla data show their batteries at roughly 80% health after 10 years. These batteries are outlasting the vehicles. All modern evs, including Ford’s, are using similar or better batteries (either NMC or LFP) that are liquid cooled / heated.

OK, so, here we go……..Stangy’s an ER RWD Premium Feb ‘21 build, June ‘21 delivery just turned up 120,000 miles today with SoH recorded at 93.5%.

Been 93.5% for tens of thousands of miles.

Seems to have levelled out after 100k

Gotta be happy with that 😁

Thanks this is what I am looking for. How are you looking at the SoH?

Long range battery on mine. But it’s an early 2021 build with over 40,000 miles. Battery is above 95% last time I checked.

Was thinking about whether to keep or replace with another, trade-in value currently £9,950, retail is £10,500 but now I’m not doing the mileage, a 93.5% SoH just about swings it for me, Stangy’s a keeper👌

I'm sitting at around 94% SOH on a '21 Premium with 34,000 miles. I show around 86 kWh at 100% on my scan tool

Mine did drop to 89% for some inexplicable reason, then increased and remained at 93.5%

Frankly I believe the SOH is a bit like the GOM.

A battery doesn’t have float in a fuel tank.

The number can vary depending upon how one does the measurement. For instance what the temperature is, if you charged 100% and even how the software used does the calculation based on the raw data.

One has to consider what SOH is supposed to represent in the first place. Basically the range left in comparison to the original range. But we know that the range reported varies based on a lot of factors. That is why it is being called a guess o meter.

So, to really be sure of any SOH number you would have to do a real range test at different points in time under controlled conditions.

So, the SOH should be considered a trend not an absolute value.

I’ve never used any other tool to present an SoH so is as reliable a comparator there is.

Additionally, I have used a professional diagnostic tool to read individual cell Voltages & kWh readings, module temperatures under a range of conditions finding negligible variances there.

I have done many SoH tests under many different conditions and 93.5% remains a constant and has done for ages so appears to be a fairly reliable reflection of SoH.

You can only do so much🤷🏼‍♂️

Those numbers are impressive. I have a friend with a 2018 Tesla and the SOC is hovering around 80%.

I believe it has been found that time has more to do with it than miles so that might have something to do with it. And maybe different battery types.

Personally, This not much of a concern for me.
