Loud Thump/Explosion Sound From Speaker

When I turn my MachE on, off, or rotate the volume knob, I get a loud thump sound through the audio system. No other music/navigation instructions play. Is this a known S/W issue, or do I need a trip to a dealer? :/

I had this happen the other day too. Loud pop from audio system when I started the car. Turning volume knob resulted in low volume static sound.

Key cycling the car didn't fix it. Loud pop again. As I was driving, I thought it might be a CarPlay issue. CarPlay loaded and looked normal, but no sound (static). Switched to radio and it worked fine (about 2 minutes after starting to drive). Later, switched back to CarPlay and now could play music from iPhone (about 10 minutes after starting to drive).

I don't know if it was a CarPlay issue or the problem just corrected itself after a couple of minutes of driving. Hasn't happened since.

@MachMachWhoThere and @SAM, the issue resolved itself! It was all normal when I drove today. Let's hope it is gone for good.

Had this happen today. Slight static noise, and adjusting volume caused loud pops. Volume also intermittently was increasing on its own. Survived two Sync restarts. Going to radio, the tuner just kept seeking up constantly. I put it on mute for a couple minutes, then opened AA and unmuted, and it had fixed itself.

My turn! Just did this for the first time. Seemed restricted to just bluetooth/AA media audio. Phone call, radio, google assistant all were fine. Just media was popping and static. Rebooted phone, rebooted Sync, still there. Will drive it in a bit to see if it resolved itself.

edit: ahhhyup, it fixed itself.

happened to me 3 times over two days this past weekend. Hopefully it is a software/update issue, as I really do not want someone disassebbling my dash. Also concerned that this is going to blow the speakers.

Mine used to do it every now and then as well. Hasn't happened in a while which means it will happen today.

This happened to me a few times, the fix for me was switch to FM then back to Sirius. I think it actually fixes as soon as you switch to FM.

This has happened to me twice, once many months back and again just recently on Apr 7, 2023. As mentioned, the only thing that seems to fix it is to switch to a radio station (I only tried FM). A Sync reset didn't fix it. It is a little scary when it happens because of the loud thump it makes! Edit: I had no static on either occasion.

I just had this happen today! Sounded like someone throwing a large softball at the car. I ended up rebooting my phone and it solved it.

I experienced this in my 2023 today. Sync reboot did nothing.

Found this thread and the XM radio did work like others mentioned. Seems tied to CarPlay in my case.

I’ll try a phone reboot if it still happens next time I’m in the car.
