But also, It can be a fight with dealer service. I took my car in last week for 4 TSB's that needed updating, and an issue with my navigation not showing streets on the maps and the PAAK update. They had my car 4 days, called to say it was done. Got my paperwork and they did nothing for the navigation and just said there is a Sync update coming later that MIGHT fix the issue. 2 of the 4 TSB's they refused to do because the warning wasn't up at the time, even though the DTC was in the history.

"Still being worked on" to me means it is somewhere in the queue, not literally that it is on a rack in pieces or something. I also find that if I call and ask to speak to the service manager I get better information about ETA than relying on whoever is answering the phone - or worse yet, text messages. They likely are just an employee with access to the dealer's computer and are not actually part of the service department. YMMV.

At my dealership, those texts come to/from the service advisor I’m working with on that particular appointment.

Most likely they're waiting for a qualified regional service person or instructions from the manufacturer. Service departments aren't equipped or trained for EV maintenance, and unfortunately they're in no hurry to change that. Low maintenance = low profits. This is not a good transition period for dealers, they're not looking forward to the coming EV avalanche..

To become EV certified the dealer must be both equipped and trained to service EVs.

If you really want to know if they're actually working on your car then turn on SecuriAlert. You can do this right now, remotely. You will be barraged with messages.

My car is in the body shop getting repaired and, as you can see from the photo below, I get a lot of messages.

Would that not be dandy.
Please remember that for many of us FordPass does not work.
There is no SECURIALERT to switch on; any "available" updates must be manually forced via Play Store; no Power-Ups; no OTAs - blocked by FordPass; etc.....

I wouldn't trust a dealer if they said the sun came up this morning. Having dealt with them over the years, there's a very good chance if you show up over there unannounced, the car is still sitting parked somewhere.

I had one (not Ford) charge me for a tire rotation when it clearly wasn't done (the front wheels had noticeably more brake dust than the rear which is the way it came in, and there was no sign the wheels were even handled). Luckily I caught it just before the courtesy wash (the best way to get swirls on your paint). They admitted fault and apologized. Just the other day, an acquaintance of mine had the same issue at the same dealer. Coincidence? I think not.

I guess anything is possible but it's not like a dealership is getting rich by scamming customers on tire rotations. The potential consequences far outweigh the gain. The juice is not worth the squeeze as they say.

People going in for service and not getting the promised service or part isn't any new with dealerships. Lots of anecdotal evidence all over the web. And It's not necessarily about them getting rich although it does add up. Sometimes, it's just lazy, dishonest mechanics taking shortcuts and the SA looking the other way. In my case, knowing that particular dealership, what could have happened was they were in a hurry to get another vehicle on the lift, or the lift was occupied by a vehicle that was going to take too long, and decided it was worth the risk. Charging for work not performed is still a scam at the end of the day. Had they washed the car, I would have never known.

Now, it could have just been the tire mechanic being dishonest, but the dealer has to take the rap IMO. And I'm not willing to buy they simply forgot. They certainly didn't forget to bill for the work.

4 days? That's nuts. Did the update require component replacement or was it just software? And it's still not fixed? Sorry about that.

It was all just module updates. I had several SSM's that applied to my car and wanted to knock it all out at once. The time they had it wouldn't have bothered me if they actually fixed everything.

I get that you needed multiple updates. But I would think that a tech can upload a lot of software in a 4 day period. I don't know what kind of computer platform the Ford techs use, but, still days per vehicle doesn't seem right.. Now I'm curious to see how OTA is going to work in the wild.

I think one of the updates mine needed was supposed to take like several hours because it has to update several modules one at a time. But the others shouldn't have been much.

Most of the modules update differently with OTA's. They program to a secondary memory, and then switch to the new version on a reboot.
