I'd like to share a verbal exchange of this past weekend while I was plugging in the MME at a local (casino) parking garage.
I know there may be other posts that are similar to this topic, and would like to hear from others. Perhaps a running thread, sticky or other can be created to share just the comments from the public. No need to debate, just interested in hearing what the public says and some possible responses. Here is the exchange:

Man (walking past EV charging bank): "I hope that thing has a gas engine"
Me: "Nope, all electric"
Man: "What are you going to do if you have to take a trip to Florida?" (from MA)
Me: "Take a plane"
Man: "Ya?"
Me: "Its cheaper"
(Man gets in lifted diesel pickup and drives away)

I donā€™t understand that people donā€™t know that you can recharge the battery? Like they donā€™t have a phone that gets recharged every day.

I don't think that's the point. The OP would fly anyway. He stopped the diesel guy in his tracks.

I can think of several responses to the question
"What are you going to do if you have to take a trip to Florida?" .... But they are all mean and I've been told if I cannot say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I use the phone analogy all the time, most get it. Seems long distance is the issue for some. I figure most would be happy with the amount of miles they could physically, mentally, safely drive before needing to stop for the night. That would be a good mental barrier for most.

I did not take it personally. I think lack of understanding and education about EV's gets most confused on how to manage energy consumption and recharging. I would still not take it on a cross country trip or down to Florida... but I would not be driving my ICE vehicle to those locations either. Less time and $ to fly.

Iā€™ve had several different exchanges but two are the most common.. first one is the person who is seeing it for the first time wants to dislike it because itā€™s called a Mustang but has this look of confusion caused by liking it so much and almost instantly convert to being ok with it being called a Mustang now (I was once part of this crew!). Then the other is the classic mustang owner whoā€™s curious about it and loves it and talks about their own Mustang experiences. The rest have been a mixed bag, but never anything overtly negative from my encounters yet.

Ok, was hoping to load this post with just things that have been said to/from MME drivers in the wild. I'll add this one. While pulling into a shopping parking lot and exiting the Mach-E, a few guys in their late teens pulled into a space next to me. They had a modded fox body Mustang. As they hopped out, as I remote locked the MME (with its horn beep confirmation for attention) I said "That's not a Mustang". They just kinda looked at me and smiled. I followed with "I like when you have done with it". They just said "thanks". Not sure they got the joke.

I have owned a gen 1, fox body, edge Mustang (still own) and now the Mach-E. Love them all.

The wife used the MME as her daily driver and has got more positive, than negative comments. I did hear her respond to a friend that said: "Is that really a Mustang?". Her response: "Yes, do you want to go for a ride?"

My wife had this same exact exchange with my father in law this weekend. He is very skeptical of our pending EV purchase. Just before he asked about driving to FL, he asked her, ā€œWhen you get this car, what happens if you want to come visit here?ā€ She was at her parentsā€™ house, less than 50 miles from our house. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Yeah OP missed an opportunity. Now the dude thinks you canā€™t drive it to Florida.
I can see how it may be misunderstood. With the current state of fuel costs I think we got the idea. His comment was more about attempting to discount the technology. My response was more of a dig of the $'s it cost to run a big truck recreationally and that I really would not be stuck at home owning an EV and would logically fly to a destination that far away. BTW I own 5 other cars, so if I wanted to drive, I guess I could, but would not for time and $ reasons.

In-Laws. Well, you have a new excuse not to visit now.

Ya, based on the reaction of the people in my group, and the guy with the truck, my response was taken as witty response. Not so much as to bust on his preference in vehicles. I love big trucks, ICE or otherwise. But more to defend the EV as a viable alternative and better that one thinks.
