I'd like to share a verbal exchange of this past weekend while I was plugging in the MME at a local (casino) parking garage.
I know there may be other posts that are similar to this topic, and would like to hear from others. Perhaps a running thread, sticky or other can be created to share just the comments from the public. No need to debate, just interested in hearing what the public says and some possible responses. Here is the exchange:

Man (walking past EV charging bank): "I hope that thing has a gas engine"
Me: "Nope, all electric"
Man: "What are you going to do if you have to take a trip to Florida?" (from MA)
Me: "Take a plane"
Man: "Ya?"
Me: "Its cheaper"
(Man gets in lifted diesel pickup and drives away)
It's a basic affront to his "manliness".

Not all that scientific, but good enough for one-liners and estimates: "My full-charge range is similar to that of 7 - 8 gallons of gas."

I agree 100%. It is foolish to drive over 500 miles in any vehicle. Take a plane or a train and get there rested and safer than driving.
If you only point is to get from A to B then yes but some of us really enjoy just seeing the country. If we can do it in an EV then great!

So, you are hanging out at a casino and discovering that you run into a not so bright gentlemen. The not so smart folks in our society tend to frequent places of gaming! ?

The two best interactions I've had are:

"Is that a modified suped-up older car?"

"I thought you just stuck a Mustang badge in an SUV because you like the cars".

About two decades ago, I saw this old pick-up truck that had all of its badges replaced with the BMW roundel and lettering on the back that suggested it was a 4 series, like 425i or something along those lines. This was long before BMW introduced the 4 series, and since it was an old truck, it sort of made it seem like BMW once had but had discontinued a bimmer pick-up. Thought it was very clever.

A friend bought an Acura MDX about the same time I bought the MME. We recently were leaving a house party and while walking to our cars, my friend said: "You wanna race". I replied: "This would kill that thing" (The this being the MME as I was standing next to it). No response. Not sure if the expectation is that it is an EV and has little power, but I decided to look at 0-60 times to support my snappy reply. Over 6 secons for the MDX.. so even my MME select will kill it.

I have only had positive reactions, the best interactions are:

"awesome Mustang and what a way to save the environment"

Stopped at traffic light, guys in a SUV pulls next to me, beeps and yells that's F'ing cool

In the middle lane at another light and there is a Tesla in the right lane, he's looking left to take a right on red... does a double take and realizes I am driving a Mach E, he grins and gives me a thumbs up!

I had a guy the commented about my MME today. He said "Is that the new electric Mustang? Too bad it doesn't have a V8 in it."
This is what the bottle of V8 that one keeps in the frunk is for.

It's a pity that Campbell's does not make a 5 liter bottle of the stuff to fully realize the gag's potential, but that's the world we live in.

I have owned my MME for over a year. I can say that there has been little to no interest in the car out in public. But, I live in SoCal which is the mecca for automobiles where expensive and exotic is the norm that's to be expected for a "low end, budget EV." I'm being facetious but any car under 6 figures here is considered low end.

I've had one of those people try to tell me that the power grid will fail before we reach 30% EVs on the road. He thinks everyone is going to charge them all at the exact same time and all night, every night. ?
Just remind them that every gallon of gasoline replaced by electrons saves 5 kWh of electricity. THAT'S where at least some of the power will come from.*

*Yea, I know.... but they won't think faster than I can move along.

Well, some are smart. I'd say stopping for a few hours and charging free, getting comped drinks for me and the Mrs. while we are entertained by gaming and ability to watch every possible event on the sports betting video wall...and leaving with about $60 more than when we arrived... is pretty smart.

Not a bad tip for those looking to charge on the road, usually free and many, many charging stations.

Yeah, I had one ICE Mustang owner say something about it's "not a real Mustang" - I said "Yeah, thankfully, I can haul my kid, a load of bricks and 8' lumber boards and still leave your base Mustang behind" and it just left them speechless.
