As a Mustang owner of a Mach-e and a V8, I was always very cautious of ripping on Mustang V6 owners.. or lesser powered ones. Reason being is that they were the bread and butter/model that allowed the line to survive. This was at a time when the entire Camaro line was discontinued because no entry level option was available. While a little intra brand competition is good, I always want to remember that portion of the owner population makes it possible to keep the brand going strong.

As an aside, I am reminded daily that the MME is quicker than my supercharged, 420HP Jaguar XKR... and it's not the base model!

Maybe EVs are becoming commonplace in Maryland bc I have not gotten any comments out in public yet, although I've only had it 3 weeks. However, I was driving slowly though a construction zone the other day and a worker stared at me the whole time like I had an alien next to me in the passenger seat. ?

"What do you do if you want to drive to Florida?"
"What do you do?"
"I gas up."
"Me too."

"Nice, what is it?"
"Mustang MachE."
"Oh they made a new Mustang, didn't know. Awesome, what size engine?"
"480 HP"
"HOLY $h*t!"

"Is that a new Mustang?"
"Yep."
"Looks great!"

"What size engine does it have?"
"Doesn't have one."
"Say what now?"
"Electric."
"Where do you fill up"
"At home when needed. You?"
"Not at home....."

I've had one of those people try to tell me that the power grid will fail before we reach 30% EVs on the road. He thinks everyone is going to charge them all at the exact same time and all night, every night. ?
?
The idea that the electric grid can't handle too many EVs is so pervasive and frustrating. EVs charging at night will help the power companies smooth out the demand curve (instead of a high peak during the day and low valley at night). Often there are entire parts of a power plant shut down until a demand peak (like a very hot summer day) necessitates them turning on which is crazy inefficient. The grid does need to be modernized and fed by more renewables, but there is a ton of room on the grid for EVs even now.

Waiting on my Mustang Mach E Select AWD on order

I actually had a positive experience talking about my (hopefully soon) MME last night. I ordered 02/11/2022, estimated build date is 06/20/2022 and date in my garage is estimated at 07/22/2022, we'll see...

Any who, last night at my son's little league baseball game. One of my son's coaches that drives a jacked up big red truck with the word "Infidel" on a huge sticker in the back window heard me say I have a MME on order.
He said "I know a guy that has an electric car that said he drove from New York City to Cincinnati, Ohio and it only cost him $40 in charging fees. That's really cool!" I went on to agree with him that EVs are cheaper to drive, and sometimes you can even get free charging.

As we drove out of the dealer lot, there was a mustang ICE driving by and it revved it's engine. I was taking a U turn, otherwise I would have pulled up next to it and raced it :)

Plus the creation and distribution of power is home-grown, not susceptible to disruption from global events. Ask the average ICE-driver what are they going to do if a fuel supply line is cut off, like the Middle East or Ukraine? Oh wait- it's happening now.

I have a friend who is convinced that all these EVs are going to bring down the grid, sending us into the dark ages. I have to remind him that when gas cars first became popular, there wasn't exactly an Arco or Shell on every corner. You really want to blow everyone's mind? Tell them the following:
  • the number of cars on the road has been increasing annually, but the number of gas stations has been in a steady decline for the past 20 years.
  • the average fuel economy for light duty vehicles sits at ~25 mpg
  • the average fuel economy of trucks has not improved significantly since the 1980s (notably trucks are bigger and heavier than they used to be!)

Well, some are smart. I'd say stopping for a few hours and charging free, getting comped drinks for me and the Mrs. while we are entertained by gaming and ability to watch every possible event on the sports betting video wall...and leaving with about $60 more than when we arrived... is pretty smart.

Not a bad tip for those looking to charge on the road, usually free and many, many charging stations.
I know, I’m just messing with you, sounds like a good evening with a free charge for the Mach E to go along with it! ?

I can think of several responses to the question
"What are you going to do if you have to take a trip to Florida?" .... But they are all mean and I've been told if I cannot say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Welcome to Florida! :p

I haven't had many interactions. I'm in So-Cal, so Teslas everywhere, although I still don't see many Mach-Es.
I was getting out of the car at Target and a guy came up and said "I have to ask, because I have one on order. How do you like it?"
I said I loved it. He said "Thanks" and just walked away.
I was like, wait, I wanted to tell him all about it. I never get to show it off to people.

I know, I took it as a joke, ya, good option for a free charge and something to do while it is connected. Of course, there is no savings if you are not lucky at the tables.

My wife had this same exact exchange with my father in law this weekend. He is very skeptical of our pending EV purchase. Just before he asked about driving to FL, he asked her, “When you get this car, what happens if you want to come visit here?” She was at her parents’ house, less than 50 miles from our house. ?‍♂
What?? 50 MILES..? Sorry, no EV has that range (for in-laws place!)

As I was pulling into parking spot at the grocery store an older man who was getting in his car stopped and was just staring at the front of my car. When I got out he asked if it was really a Mustang. I told him yes and got ready for "the talk".

He looked the car over and said..."man...they have really grown up" then got in his car and left. I'm not even sure he knew or cared it was electric.
