Mach-E Tax Credit Phase Out

I'm going to test drive a Mach-E tomorrow. If the test drive goes well I plan to order a Premium - Extended Range AWD in Grabber Blue with Light Gray interior.

What are the chances that I would be eligible (based on Ford EV production, not politics) for the full $7,500 tax credit upon delivery?

Also, my cousin works for a Ford X-Plan partner. Would I be able to get a PIN under 'Friend/Family?"

Many threads discuss this. At this point, you may be lucky to get a 2022, which is expected to have the full credit. 2023 50%, then 25%.

No, you cannot get a PIN from your cousin. You have to be a household member, i.e. same address.

An employee of Ford can give a X-Plan PIN to anyone. A partner company employee has more restrictions.

No on the Xplan, but you can join Mustang Club of America for access to X-plan. Make sure your dealer will accept Xplan though. Also Ford has over 50k allocations left for the 7.5k credit, as of 9/30/21. They should still not reach phase out under existing plan by the end of 2022. I’m assuming a new one will pass, it will depend on when and how they handle those between 12/31/21 and when it passes, which I anxiously await as I purchased 1/21 and am currently eligible for it, albeit next tax year.

It's extremely likely you'll get the full tax credit if you order now. With the lightning and Mach-E sales this year they will probably hit the 200,000 EV threshold in the third quarter this year, although that could slip to the fourth depending upon chip shortages. Assuming they hit the threshold in the 3rd quarter this year the full credit continues until December 31 2022 (the END of the quarter AFTER the quarter in which they hit the 200,000 car threshold). Continuing the example: cars bought between January 1st 2023 and June 30th 2023 would get $3850 and July 1st 2023 to dec 31st 2023 $1875

No - I told my dealer I was using X plan 2 months before delivery and got my pin after that. You just need your pin when you accept delivery.
Do check that they accept X plan and tell them you plan to use it.

When you buy (ie sign the paperwork and drive away) the car, not when it is reserved. If you join now you should be fine; however, the dealer may choose not to honor the X-plan.

Important to tell dealer you are using x-plan pin and verify that the dealer will accept x-plan. Then do what’s necessary to obtain the pin. Joining Mustang Club is fastest.

You can also get x-plan pin if you’ve owned 100 shares of Ford stock for 6 month.
