I also turn off 1pd - was wondering how many others do the same. I had exactly 1 experience with 1pd on ice before deciding not to try that again.
I tried turning it off, but I am so used to it that I feel much more in control of the vehicle with it on at this point; I turned it back on and left it on, felt much more confident with it on. This may simply reflect the 1pd accommodation effect that I get, I find it jarring when I drive my wife's car after having exclusively driven my MME with 1pd on for months.

I have been driving, mostly in CO and OH, for over half a century.
c. 1977 I needed two new tires. Just as an experiment, I purchased two snow tires for the rear wheels of the Galaxie at the beginning of the winter season. I drove on them all winter. No advantage gained. I took them off at the end of the winter season. No winter tire before or since.
About that time one of the Goods, -year or -rich (since forgotten which), came up with all-season (A/S) tires. All other tire manufacturers followed forthwith. The originals were functional, but not as sophisticated as todays offerings.
I have used them ever since.
A/S tires will work on all passable roads. Tire pressure variation is recommended for best results.
I keep 1PD on. Takes some acclimation initially, but works great w/ practice.
The MME is my first and only AWD. Forced upon me by the powers-that-be. They have imposed driving bans on non AWD vehicles for misguided reasons. Most probably an ulterior motive (after all, AWDs consume and waste more gasoline).
We have to wait too long for appointments and therefor cannot afford to miss them based on some ignorant whim.

Take your car to the HS parking lot some weekend after a fresh fallen snow. Practice driving by doing donuts. Your driving skills, especially in snow, will be considerably improved.
Yes it may sound silly and stupid, after all we were silly and stupid teenagers, but we learned much.

As for summer/performance tires I have no experience or use. Seems to me they are for racing. Even if I were participating in such an activity, my MME is much, much faster than 95% of all the other cars on the road. There is no contest. Therefor no race.
Cannot throw in 3 deuces or a 4bbl. Suppose you could stuff a larger motor in the front? Add wings, parachutes.......

Have fun

Aren’t those “summer performance” tires? My understanding is that Summer Performance tires in general are made with a different compound that doesn’t do well with cold temperatures (it gets stiff or brittle or something I was told).
Believe GT model has all season tires. We swapped out the summer tires on our GTPE with Michelin pilot sport a/s 4. Excellent traction all season tire rated XL.
