Happy holidays, everyone! Every time I see pictures like this it makes me wonder why so many manufacturers are going this route with the charge port. I thought Nissan did it well with the Leaf - there's a panel on the front that you push a button to spring open, and then you open it a bit further. While the charge port is slightly upward-facing, the panel provided a bit of cover for it. Manufacturers can do literally anything with these charge ports - they're not limited by the flow of fluid and placement of a gas tank. Why are we still emulating ICE so heavily? Heck, make the charge port slightly downward-facing so that snow has a harder time building up on it...
Most accidents involve the front bumper or rear, having the port on the side greatly reduces the likelihood of port damage and not being able to charge/higher repair costs, esp if the car is drivable otherwise until you get it fixed.

I do wish there was a standard as to where the charge port is on all cars so they could build better charge stations.

I don't mean to say it has to be on the front, but they could make the charge port door open upward instead of to the side, for example. It would need to be a bit beefier (the Leaf's felt pretty heavy-duty). Or even make it a bit more recessed, and again, possibly angled down... there's a lot they could do with it.

It’s a traditional white Christmas here too.

Maunakea yesterday.
Avalanche or precipitation and/or drifts?

First pass is melted. How far did it go on for?

I throw it down hill. Less chance of it coming back and better on melt. Snow guys in sandals? ;)

There was about 10 feet of snow and a lot of ice in the wake of that storm. Snow extended down to 9000feet. This the road yo the summit of Maunakea where the observatories are.

Google is my friend. I think I see your place in the picture? To the left?

They open to the side, towards the front of the vehicle, so that if it comes unlatched while driving the air moving along the car will mostly close it. Going up or the other way the air flow would break it.

Or they could make it open like the charge port door on the Fusion Energi. ??

Makes sense for the current design, but the door feels a bit flimsy as it is. Why not have it be a bit more solid, again like the Nissan Leaf? I've had ICE vehicles with firmer-feeling gas tank caps than what the Mach-E has. Granted the size of the port might have something to do with that for the ICE vehicles, but if Nissan could pull it off with the Leaf and make it a solid mechanism, we can definitely do it here. I haven't heard of any Leaf charger doors coming up while driving, despite being at the front of the car, and despite lifting upward.
