I have a 2021 Premium SR AWD. For the most part this has been a solid car. Today, when I left work, the car would not unlock. I stood their in disbelief trying to use the keypad, the remote and the app… all no luck.

While I waited for a tow truck, I could hear a knocking sound from the right rear quarter panel. Not a subtle knock. Very noticeable. And it would stop and start again. When I finally got a jumper to pop the hood, I connected it to the 12v battery terminal and it started.

I then got the dreaded orange wrench and the message I attached asking me if it was plugged in. When I later looked at the app, it says I had battery drainage about three hours before I went to my car, but nothing was plugged it.

Anyone have a similar situation? It might be the 12v battery but that doesn’t explain the knocking sound or why it drained all of a sudden. By the way, it was 60 degrees here in Michigan today so I don’t think it was cold weather.

Your car thought it was plugged in and that kept it awake and drained the 12v. The sound you heard is typical with a low 12v trying to power systems on and failing. You need to get your charger port replaced

You sound very confident. Is this a known issue?
