Your solution made it worse for me. She didn't like having to stop to charge 5 times for the trip. In our MKZ hybrid we only have to make one or two stops.

I get to test my wife's resilience to long distance charging in June when we go down to Asheville, NC for the ST Experience. It's only two stops, but we'll see how she does

One advantage of BEVs is their electric power, in most states, comes from a state regulated monopoly versus the unregulated Big Oil monopoly/oligopoly selling gasoline. Big Oil companies, which intent on "maximizing their profits", routinely raises their prices anytime there is a hint of international crisis. As we see today with the Big Oil companies increasing their prices for gasoline due to the supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine. Neither of which should matter that much since the widespread use of fracking was to have made the USA energy independent of foreign imports.

Even better: if you buy solar panels your electricity costs are fixed for 20 to 25 years (depending upon which panels you bought).

Unfortunately for the marketplace many frackers went under during the oil price collapse of 2020 - 2021. Now that prices are up they'll come back. Whether that's a good thing or not depends upon how you feel about methane leaks.

Several concept vehicles from the 50s and 60s... Not likely to ever happen (short of a military vehicle) due to the weight needed to safely contain the radiation from a crash. The concept cars would not be practical, at least not to the point of being safe...

That's what I'm talking about! None of the drudgery of plugging in the car every week. And, like all Americans, I am an above-average driver, so safety will be no problem.

For people who need a car to get from point a to point b, EVs are still waaaaaay too expensive to be mainstream. From a practicality standpoint, my MME is a major step down from my Subaru Outback that was $20,000 cheaper (and was the highest trim level available in 2016). But man, it’s so much more fun to drive and I hate waiting at the gas station for an attendant to pump my gas, as required in Oregon. I don’t think most people can comfortably drop 30k for an Outback…50k+ for an AWD select at this point out the door just isn’t realistic for most people. And don’t get me started on the EV truck game…I cancelled my lightning reservation when I found out the minimum price for an ER battery was 75k and it came with cloth seats, a smaller screen, and no sunroof. The non-EV version is literally 25k less, and that’s before potential markups. For those of us who are car/driving enthusiasts, maybe the price is worth it. For those who aren’t, it just doesn’t seem to be worth it. Almost everyone I know thinks EVs are cool and like my MME, but I’m still the only EV owner of all my friends, family, and coworkers.

My MME has shipped and will arrive in Vancouver WA mid-April, assuming 30 days for transit. I have a question since you are in Oregon. Any problems with the bouncy issue on the roads in Oregon/WA. We drive into Portland a lot and seems like there are a few spots with concrete seams,,,that is the big issue I'm worried about. We have a Premium AWD EV and they say that one is the most noticeable. BTW...our first EV. I've already read to lower the tire PSI if necessary and change tires when the original need replacing.

Have had many high mileage vehicles but no hybrids. Had a 1987 Honda CRX HF for a long time that got over 50mpg on the freeway, but only had something like 80HP. VW bug before that.

I have a 911, and that is one reason I will most likely always own an ICEV along with my EV!
People have asked me, if gas hits $10 per gallon, will you still drive it? My answer? If gas hits $100 a gallon I will still drive it! Just not very far... LOL

The Mach-E is great, and we are saving a ton of money on my wife's long commute and other routing driving chores. We use it for at least 95% of the driving we do, but I sometimes need to haul one of my three trailers, sometimes for distances that I would never want to deal with the charging stops if the truck was one of today's EVs. We will be looking at an EV truck instead of the Mach-E in a couple of years when the EV truck market is more mature. With 10k# towing, an EV truck would mean it would be good for 98 to 99% of the driving we do.

I will still be keeping the big ICE truck and the 911 though.

I think the car is fine, and much more enjoyable to drive than my Outback or Ascent. The suspension is pretty tight and bumpier than an ICE, but that’s the case for all EVs due to the weight. But I come from Oklahoma, and the roads there are MUCH worse - downright dangerous in lots of places. Compared to that, these roads are awesome.

We do this same trip a lot, to go see my son, and the second time we did it the EA chargers at our usual stop were getting an update so they were super slow. This made another stop for us and pretty much soured her on taking the Mach anymore. Probably not a bad thing since I already have 11k miles on it since getting it in late October. It's a great road trip car (sorry, great car period) except for the excessive stops.

Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread to say this is my first EV. And, I'm never going back to an ICE, at least not for my personal, main daily driver.

Any one else feel the same way?

Never say never, but...yeah, probably never going back to ICE...at least not for our "main" vehicle. When I think about cars I might like to have in the future, they're all EVs. Still have the Boxster, and love it, but also rarely drive it. Would love to keep that "forever", but practicality might win out and I wouldn't be surprised if that get's traded for an EV someday.

I am hoping that my MMe will be my last car. My hope is that, at least for urban settings, there will be shared autonomous cars on the road in 10 years. The last few years might bring some of this into question.

I love driving and the MMe is absolutely everything I want in a car (except for the sound system) but it is time for a different transportation model.

Even before the crazy gas prices the best thing is getting into a fully charged car every morning.

My main driver is my MME, but I will keep my 2019 Subaru Outback to haul stuff around, and drive in the Sierra's in the winter! My wife has a 2011 Honda Accord, but might be considering an electric vehicle when the time comes to move up!

Was EV for 5 years, then due to Bolt recall they gave me a GMC Canyon AT4 instead, a $40k truck, driving it was HORRIBLE, I honestly had forgotten how bad an ICE is everyday. Yes I use my wife's older highlander often and on long trips and it is fine, but it is a 2015, and I was expecting more from a 2022 Truck. I almost bought a Bronco instead, but once I tried out the Mach-E I am SOOO glad I went back to EV, never making that mistake again (I hope).

As soon as I started driving my Bolt (which is no where near as nice as the MME) I knew I would never have another ICE. We are just waiting for a slightly bigger SUV EV to replace hubby's Subaru for the long car trips with kids/dogs/bikes. The MME has more cargo room then we anticipated so it is really close to what we need but a little tight.

The used Leaf's out there are reaching the point where EVs are affordable for a much wider swath of people, but the range on those old batteries is really limiting for usefulness.

Bit the bullet and brought the MachE into the dealer for the windscreen fix. 4 days of ICE vehicles and $150 in fuel bills and it enough. Have a Bronco being built but am really considering a 2nd EV.
