New A/C Button

What exactly does it do? We have temperature controls and auto climate control so doesn’t the A/C come on anytime it needs to in order to lower the cabin temp to the set temp? Will the A/C button override the temp setting and make it even colder?

I would have preferred a sync button, so I don’t need to go thru multiple steps re-sync every time my passenger unsyncs the temps,

It allows you to turn off the A/C compressor if you don’t want it on. I do that when I just want outside air blown into the cabin.

The A/C button was moved from the climate screen to the main home screen. For reasons I can't understand, apparently there were users asking for this change. ???

At any rate. The A/C button still works the same as before. It closes the Evaporator shut off valve thus prohibiting refrigerant from circulating through the evaporator. The net effect is the Climate Control system will attempt to cool the cabin using only ambient air.

The Auto feature does the same thing. If outside temp is cooler than the desired temp setting then the system will attempt to use outside air to cool the cabin instead of using the A/C compressor. Exact same thing happens with E-Heat. The car will use outside temp to warm the cabin vs turning on the PTC heater. Even though the A/C and E-Heat buttons are illuminated doesn't mean those components are actually in use. That just means the respective system is active but might not actually be drawing any power.

It is kinda confusing to many folks. Including myself at times.
