Job 1 2021 owner here. Mine now does this, also. Every time. With the windows down, I can clearly here it engaging when I shift to "P".
And like others, I've noticed the red "BRAKE" indicator on the IPC doesn't illuminate when this happens, unless I manually pull the parking brake lever again. I'd rather the BRAKE indicator came on as soon as it does this "auto" EBrake.
Same here. It should turn the brake light on and it doesn’t.

2022 GT-PE, I noticed the same change…parking brake automatically engages every time shifting to Park. I’d rather it didn’t. With the parking brake failures we’ve seen I’d rather not put the extra mechanical cycles on it when it’s not needed. The actuator is going to wear out more quickly and either not apply or not release when it’s supposed to, both cases being bad. I’d rather go back to the prior logic…apply the parking brake only when needed or (gasp), the driver can do it manually with the switch when needed.

We have had at least 6 cars with an electronic parking brake since 2011. We have driven hundreds of thousands of miles on them and we have never had a parking failure on any of them. I often have used the electronic brake at many intersections at a stop light if the car did not have 1PD.

I have zero reasons to be concerned from my perspective on parking brake failures.

You should read more of the posts on this forum, then.

This was posted with only reading the first post and knowing why there would be EIGHT (8) pages of follow up, on the internet, in 2023….. WELL I’LL BE…….

I don’t know about this ”feature”; it’s annoying when backing up that the parking brake engages before I’ve decided I’m done parking and have to disengage to resume my parking…. Whose genius idea was that??

I don't understand the complaint. The car stops, you press on the go pedal, it moves again. The parking brake only engages when you put it in Park or turn it off. So what is the problem again?

It’s annoying when I open the door while stopped (gear selector still on reverse, foot on brake pedal), not asking the parking brake to engage at all but the second the door opens I hear that sound of it engaging. I recognize it may be an outer limits of the galaxy complaint to most folks, just taking advantage to the forum space to air my minor frustration with like minded people.

It engages because the car goes into Park when you open the door. It has always done that. The only difference is now the car doesn't rock when it goes into Park.

Can this feature be disabled?

I have the parking brake malfunction problem and I don't want it to auto engage and get stuck before I have it fixed.
