It’s just so janky though having to tap that deep into the interface to access features. And it ironically increases the mfg’s reliance on Apple.
I agree… and… I can see how Ford bean counters look at Sync, utter the dreaded words “sunk cost” and say, “develop forward on current platforms unless [list of reasons].”

I’m not saying that there will never be another Sync update, but I can the logic in “prove to me why you have to do it on Sync.”

Right, so why wouldn't I do that in the mobile app while I'm inside my home?
Precondition the battery, not the cabin. It’s handy when you’re on a trip that requires a charging stop resulting in a shorter pit stop. There is currently no way to do that manually in the car.

I can't imagine they would add these functions to a CarPlay app rather than add them to the Sync screen via an OTA.
Oh imagine they could do exactly that. I'd like to be able to trigger it by Siri, and I always have CarPlay on, but it seems short sighted to build a feature like that into a changing environment like a mobile app that will require constant work to keep it working as someone else changes the operating system. Plus I doubt there is a CarPlay protocol to send the pre-condition command. Having it built into the car regardless of someone's phone choice seems much smarter to me. But I don't get to make the decisions at Ford. If I did we'd all have V2L and remote start/un-parking

Because you are miles and miles away from home, on the road, and decided to charge. Road trips happen, just finished one myself, and as I understand, preconditioning the battery before a charge is useful.

I’ve been doing more reading on the ioniq 5N. Those guys 2025 & newer get a button in the software to initiate battery conditioning. It was done through a software update IIRC. 24’ and older models can’t get the software update unfortunately. But I Don’t see it being done through CarPlay of all places (for many reasons).

@Ford Motor Company please enable air play in CarPlay to watch YouTube etc from phone.
Edited to say: Ford will have to do some serious changes on their end to support it once Apple starts supporting it. I suspect this will be a feature for future models, not older ones.

I’m sure there’s some small team dedicated to SYNC to fix major bugs etc, but most of the developers are likely spending their time and energy on the next generation “Ford Digital Experience” platform powered by Google Built In. And whatever the next generation EV platform system will run, if it ends up being different than FDE.

So i wouldn’t get your hopes up on new SYNC4 features or significant updates. With any electronic device these days, buy it if you’re happy with the current functionality as-is, because promised upcoming features may never come.
I wish the features we had (which convinced me to buy the car) would have stayed. Such as Power My Trip.
