I'm in the market for my first EV. I currently drive a Ford Fusion Sport that I love, but it's starting to need some expensive repairs after 100k miles.

I like the sporty feel of driving a sedan over an SUV, so I originally have been test driving Tesla model 3 performance and Lucid Air Touring. I would also look at Audi S6 etron, but it's not out yet.

However, the Model 3 looks ugly to me and way too common in my neighborhood, so I've been trying to stay away from that.

I've been idolizing the Lucid for years now, looks beautiful with the stealth package. But when I drove it, it didn't feel like a $100k car to me (or even $80k with no options). The steering wheel was creaking. Things that are standard on the Mach E cost an additional $5k on the Lucid (lane centering). The visibility out the front wasn't good for tall people unless you spring another $5k for the panoramic glass roof (which looks silly with the visors). And the clamshell trunk opening is awkward. But my wife and kids loved it and want me to get it.

So since I love my Fusion, I thought I'd try the Mach E GT. I was happy with it. I wish it drove a little more sedan and a little less SUV, but the interior was much nicer than my Fusion and it's much quicker. It felt better built than the creaking Lucid. Obviously not as luxurious, but not that far off. Only negative was I felt like my head was really close to the roof (I'm 6'2") when I sat in the back seat, so the Lucid has a better back seat. But getting in and out is easier than the Lucid and I will like the utility of the cargo space/ trunk.

I know there probably aren't many people cross shopping these two very different models, but I went in thinking Lucid and coming out thinking Mach E GT. I think you get much more for your money with the Ford. Better value. Best HP per dollar.

I still have some reservations about going back to an SUV. This would be so much simpler if Ford made an electric Fusion (or any electric sedan). I'm planning on not buying until November, so I still have some time to think about it.

Hopefully, I'll get to post a pic of my rapid red GT soon.

Well if it helps, the Mach-E is really a wagon. An electric fusion would end up being about the same height because of the battery pack needing to be underneath. And the Mach-E GT is pretty sporty as far as EVs go, the weight is a killer but it’s down low.

With the Mach-E you can do the Eibach sway bars, spings, and Forscan mods, that might be worth something to you as well as a Ford guy.

I can help you with this. I owned a 2017 Ford Fusion sport and I loved it. I now own my 24 Mach E GT. I couldn't be happier with it. It does everything better than the fusion. It isn't really an SUV. It is a wagon. More sedan like in the way it drives with the low center of gravity. The magnaride is light years better than the CCD(adaptive suspension) on the Fusion Sport. I drive in unbridle mode which puts everything in the stiffest setting as well as the best throttle response and best regen mode. Even in unbridle, the ride is sporty, yet the dampening is great.

I am 6'3", so very similar to your height and the comfort is great and the seats are good for our size body type. The back seat is tight on head room, but I have been in the back enough and not really had an issue with it. Mostly I care how the front seats are since I am there 99 percent of the time. Much more roomy than the fusion sport rear seats.

Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with!

That's interesting. I started modding my Fusion on day one. I thought if I owned an EV, I wouldn't have any thing to do.

I don't think of my MachE as an SUV. I see the wagon analogy because of the rear storage but I have to tell you that my husband's Tesla S is longer than the MachE. So I think the MachE is a sedan with a big trunk.

We have a 2014 Fusion Hybrid that we love too. The MachE is a better drive than the Fusion. We have a Miata that is a really fun drive that I would compare to the MachE. We also have an Explorer and going back to that after driving the MachE for awhile you realize that the MachE is not an SUV at all.

I only know one person with the Lucid and they are very crabby about their car.

Also, why are you sitting in the back seat ;)

I came from a crummier Fusion (Energi), but with a few mods to make it more palatable (Steeda bars, strut tower brace). I liked that fusion a lot. I like my MME GT-PE better. ??

I don’t consider it an SUV. It’s a unibody wagon, kind of like my dad’s ‘74 Pinto Wagon, just with AWD and a lot more torque. Then again, my ‘72 K/5 is a wagon too, just a tall one that can run stuff over. ??

The MME feels more like a Hatchback than an SUV to me. The ride height and seating position are half way between an SUV and a sedan: not as high as an SUV, but you don't fall down into the seat like you would with a sedan.

If you're considering a Mach-e GT, I would test drive the Performance Edition too. It's got Magnaride which people say is much better.

I love most everything about my Premium (First Edition), except the stiff suspension.

Sounds like that might be ideal.

Magnaride comes on all 2024 GTs. There is a performance upgrade (which I'm getting too) but I think that's just a software upgrade that removes some of the power restrictions.

I came from 25 years of nothing but performance coups. Couldn’t be happier.
Yes, I miss the handling of my corvette, or even my Mustang. But this car is nice. And handles pretty good for 5K lbs car.

I agree my MME is the best of both worlds. Comfort of a sedan and flexibility of an SUV. Size is in between. My GT has great performance.

The GT rules! Especially on twisty mountain roads. It drives more like a sedan/coupe than a truck. When you’re driving you look at what’s in front of you, not the rear, and what you’re seeing is a sedan hood. What’s on the back is in your head.
I’ve had Volvo, Saab, Audi, Toyota, Nissan and this MME GT I’ve been driving for three years now is the best car I ever had, hands down. I hope you’ll be as happy with yours! Let us know on this thread when you get it.

I still quibble about the Mach-E being an "SUV". It's not tall enough. It's not even as tall as the somewhat smaller RAV4 or Nissan Rogue. And my registration tag calls it a "4-dr hatchback". Compare it to, say, a Chevy Blazer EV and I think the Mach-E comes off as significantly more carlike.

Fun fact: the Mach-E is almost EXACTLY the same length/width as a '71 coupe, though the wheelbase is quite a bit longer.

I had a 2014 Fusion Titanium since new and loved it. Traded it for 23 Mach E GT PE (Rapid Red) this past June. I do not miss the low profile tires on the Fusion. Loved the look - hated curbs. The performance and ride of the Mach E is superior. Love everything about the car. My only complaint is the hitchy connectivity of Ford Pass. It continues to improve though. I also miss the ventilated seats because I live in Phoenix. Seat comfort is very similar to Fusion. My wife complains about the head rests - not adjustable. I've had other Mach E owners pull up and brag about how much they love their experience. I agree with your comment about the lack of style relative to Tesla. But, every Tesla owner I know loves their vehicle. I enjoyed the Tesla test drive, and the new Model 3's have vent seats. But - we are a Ford family, and the Mach E has superior styling in my opinion. I do not regret the purchase one bit.
