@ 34,000 miles I replaced the OEM tires on Maki (2021 LR AWD). they had good tread, but we are planning a Road Trip in a Mountainous area in a month & I wanted newer tread. these could have gone 40k miles EZ. OEM's were Michelin Primacy. I placed with Michelin Pilot Sport. Both are rated as EV compatible at Costco. I checked the REAL mileage (not Guess-o-Meter) and it looks like it's about 200 miles to the last electron. 200 Mile max Range! I was getting 250-270 REAL miles before the change. Now looking at Primacy or Bridgestone TURANZA EV to replace the Pilot Sports.
Any similar experience? Different experience?

cheers!

You did not lose 50 to 70 miles of range by changing tires...

You won’t lose between 50 & 70 miles just because you changed your tyres! That’s just fanciful!!

The majority of the range drop is probably just weather related. Is this your first winter with the Mach-E?

In Colorado, I tend to lose about 12%-15% of my range in the winter.

New tires CAN reduce your range, but not by that much, so it might be a combination of tires and weather...

Yeah..........

I bought this car new in 2021. 5th winter. And I tried to include consideration for Cold weather reduction. Summer: the Guess-o-meter can get to 300+.
Winter: kind of expect 250- 270-ish @ 100% - I usually don't charge that high.
But Real World (odometer) 200 miles max range? I was stunned.
Researching this, I now see new products. At Costco, Tires are now identified as EV Compatible, or EV Dedicated.
Not sure whyANYthing would not be compatible. it fits? it works.
I am trading out the (Michelin) Pilot Sports for The Primacy's.
Guess we'll see......

One data point.

I have a Rally - factory tires are CrossClimate2's. They fit great. They're 3PMS, and they weigh about 1/2 lb more than the Primacy tires of the same size. They are not EV optimized, and probably cost me about 8% in range vs. the Primacy tires (that's my guess, based on the EPA range of a GT AWD). In the summer here at the 45th parallel, I was getting 260 miles from a 100% charge. Now I'm getting about 225 miles on a full charge - about a 16% drop.

So yeah, tires matter - but temps matter more.

Based upon a lifetime of automotive engineering training, continued professional development, managing transport operations, physically driving c3,000,000 miles in various vehicles before & after tyre changes and life & work as an independent expert in automotive engineering for 35 years.

If tyre makers made such mileage sapping tyres they’d never sell another tyre and I doubt there’d be a wear rating severe enough for such a tyre.

I’d be looking at your basis for your conclusions on economy, laser 4-wheel aligning the vehicle, checking brakes etc etc.
