I don't think it's a secret that the Gen 2 EVs will come out starting in 2025, this includes a redesigned Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. I'm expecting it to be a lot more aerodynamic to come closer to Tesla Model Y efficiency, 800V architecture, and have a complete revamped module architecture that's simpler and purpose built rather than recycled ICE modules.

I also think they have a smaller/cheaper EV coming based on the Puma that will hopefully compete with the Bolt/Model 3, and a larger 3-row SUV to complete with the EV9. Hopefully all will have NACS.

NOTE: These are 3rd part renders, which should be a good guess but are not the actual product.

If it were to end up like that I would keep what I have on look at another brand. I am more interested in when the battery technology will provide 400+ miles on a Gt.

Not even Ford would call it a Mustang lol I wouldn’t buy the Mach-E if it looked like that.
What exactly are you basing that thought on? The idea that the Mustang nameplate means something to Ford?

Same here I skipped the GT because of the 270 mi range or whatever it is. Quite low especially considering if you’re going to follow charging guidelines - not charging above 90% or leaving it drop below 10% for battery health. Then you’re really getting 240 miles or so maybe less. When you account for battery degradation over time, the range will start to really suck.

The things that will get me to upgrade... 800v architecture, Vehicle to load functionality like the Ioniq 5 has.. everything else would be gravy

If you need your full 270 mi range, it's fine to charge to 100%, that whole thing is overblown, there's already a buffer when you go to 100. Ford just being extra conservative because of warranties.

I’m curious to see what the rumor mill is pointing to for when the next Mach-E redesign would be. Wonder if Ford will keep the same design for 10 years (like Tesla) - probably unlikely.

If I had to guess…2026?

Any ideas or guesses?

I would love it if the ME can take 350KW from 0-80%.... and it can drop down to whatever...

That only helps you for the first leg of a trip. With the DCFC curve, no one will be wanting to sit at a station waiting to get back to 100% before continuing on.

As for the topic of this thread, I don't foresee the MME getting refreshed for a while. They'll likely target other market segments with the gen 2 rollout. No need to spend resources on a new MME when they already have one, but also have large gaps elsewhere in the lineup.

It definitely means something to Ford, it’s called marketing and money! Sadly that’s about all at this point, why else slap it on two vehicles produced in the same year(s).

In my experience, the best move on a long distance trip is to start the day with 100% in the battery, and then only charge enough at each stop to make it to the next stop. At least until charging stations are as plentiful as gas stations.

Not bad.
Wish I could see the front.

Whatever Ford does, they need to put wider wheels/tires on the GT and GTPE.
There’s not enough rubber on the road for the power and torque, so they currently struggle to keep traction.
I know there would be a range hit for wider shoes, but the next generation should accomplish other efficiencies that should minimize that.

BTW, when Ford announced the Tesla Supercharger compatibility, they said we would use adapters until 2025 when NACS will be built in.
I get the feeling 2025 will either be a major refresh, or the total, Gen 2 redesign.
In the world of ICE vehicles, it would probably be a refresh. That said, Ford is losing so much on every Gen 1 BEV, if they are able to achieve the efficiencies and cost savings on the Gen 2 cars that they’ve been talking about, they may move to Gen 2 as absolutely soon as they can.
So, I’ll say 2025 will be Gen 2 time.
