What's the purpose of having a removable plate. Either it's required by law or it isn't.

I can think of:

- Living in a state that requires a plate, but planning on moving to a state that does not, and don't want permanent holes in bumper.

- Want to attach some type of vanity plate for a show, and then remove it.

In some states the only time it's really enforced is during the vehicle inspection and unless you're getting pulled over for something else, the cops don't seem to care. At worst, it's a fix-it ticket.

Not that I would ever advocate putting on your front plate only to pass inspection and then removing it after.

That would be illegal.

*cough*

Thought there was a company that was Cali approved that made a license plate sticker

Here it is:

Linky
I have one of those decal plates. Will be installing it next week.

Biggest advantage that I can think of is not having two or three big ass holes drilled into your $1,000 bumper and still be up to code if your state requires a plate.

Well, I live in California. That front plate holder will be installed.

There is another company that makes universal brackets that will kinda fit the MME, with some minor mods. Thread is here. I am in CA and will be putting on the front plate. I hate the idea of the dealer drilling the bumper. I can understand some that do not care since the plate will cover the holes for as long as the car is running.

I am thinking of either the vinyl or a front plate bracket mounted on the underside. The removable bracket may be my starting point and will just mount it permanently on the underside (i.e. frame). The ZIC bracket has potential but I would remove the pull pin and use a torx security bolt to keep most people honest.

This is my reason! Also I’m moving to Texas which requires an inspection. I don’t have one on now (even though I’m in CA) and would hate to ruin the bumper just for the 15 min inspection.

I live in a state that requires it but I plan on running with no front plate for as long as I can. If I get pulled over for it, I'll be looking at options like this. The one that was found earlier by Craig? I think it was, didn't prove to be all that great of a product.

the vinyl/decal front plates are not illegal.
they do a good job of covering up the holes. (install after PPF)
do not know about duration - had them on 4+ mos. thus far, no problem.
This year CO gave me a credit for using my old plates (35+ years) which paid for the vinyl plate.

Not illegal or legal. Seems to only be an issue if you drive to Boulder. Lol. I’ll plan on getting one myself once I get my custom plates.
