No more turn by turn on dashboard for Apple Maps?

Anyone else noticing this? I think it started after the latest OTA. I can't even tell what the update is because it just says "We're unable to retrieve update details right now".

Mine did that, but I disconnected my phone and reconnected it and it worked again. I'm on the 4.1.2 update

On my 2023 with Apple Car Play maps - turn by turn directions on the front console seem to have changed behavior. It only shows when I am nearing a turn then goes away. On my 2021, it keeps the directions showing on the front console the whole time. Is this a bug or a feature? Anyone else experiencing this?

Last week I had to go someplace I needed directions to, and the map went crazy! I was driving down a four-lane boulevard and the map showed me driving through the neighboring subdivisions and the voice kept telling me "turn left on this street, turn right at the stop sign, go left here..." on and on! I tried pulling up Safari maps and it was going bonkers. I finally turned everything off and found the place on my own. I don't know if there was some kind of interference, if the vehicle's system has a bug, if my phone and Sync interfered with each other, or what. I've had my car almost 7 weeks so I'm still figuring things out, but this was a doozey.

this was happening to me today with apple maps on CarPlay - the phone was definitely borked. all applications had the wrong GPS location. i had to reboot the phone. it did start behaving after that.

in heavy rain i've had bad gps fixes but this was something new. the phone thought i was in my neighborhood, apparently flying over the local cemetery, when i was 5 miles away.

in some other threads people were positing that iOS 16 is just really buggy. it could be.

i didn't notice any difference in the turn-by-turn directions on the driver's' display but i was not paying close attention. they were definitely there, just not sure if they were doing anything different than normal.

Yes, I have a 2022 that works the same way as your 2023, the directions in the instrument cluster only pop up when I am a half-mile away from a turn, which isn't that useful especially at speed. When I am running the Ford nav it behaves like this also, which I noticed this was different than early Mach-E videos I saw where the directions would show consistently.

As you said, unclear whether that's a bug or feature, could say the same for much of our cars' software... would really like to have even a few basic settings to configure the instrument cluster, like almost every other car with a digital display.

I don’t use Apple Maps with Car Play even though I do use Car Play. But there maybe something to the GPS thing bc the GPS on my Apple Watch Ultra was borked a few days last week.

Interesting. Yeah I've seen it with multiple coworkers iPhones and my BF's phone. On several suburbans, a rav4 and my Mach E

Not sure whether there is another thread for this, but I'm surprised there is not more discussion about this. It isn't just CarPlay; it is also the Ford Navigation. To this day, my '21 still has turn by turn on the dashboard console and my '23 has it show up in the .5 miles before I need to turn. This is really annoying and not nearly as useful as the continuous turn by turn showing up on the dashboard. Anyone else bothered by this?

Just happened for my 2021 as well as of Wednesday morning. The car took an update earlier that morning so I assume it broke something.

Matter fact, I noticed that the other day and I closed the map and reopened it to set directions again cause I thought it closed on me. I haven’t tried it since it happened, but my iPhone did get an update last night.

Not broken, just changed.

It's either a bug, or the removal of extremely useful feature.
